Nips hurt during teething. Normal?

My 14 mo is teething and my nipples are killing me. Is that normal? Or at least happen to some mamas. What do you do to stop the pain. It's like nursing in the beginning again. I know in the beginning I used lansonah, but I don't think they are dry.

I don't know if it's normal, but I noticed that it happened to me as well. It's like she forgot how to latch on correctly. But when the teething was over, luckily things went back to the comfortable way they were before.

My 16 month old son seems to forget how to latch since he is in teething-must-chew-on-everything mode. It does hurt and I have to repeatedly correct his latch. It also seems to go through better and worse spells so hang in there and hopefully it will get better for us soon!

Thanks mamas. I haven't really noticed that he is latching incorrectly, but maybe that is what is going on. I plan on hanging in there and sooooo appreciate other mamas telling me to do so. I have too many people telling me to give it up already. I'm glad I have a place like mdc to come to.

I notice this too. Usually it lasts at most a week right when shes cutting teeth then its over. It was particularly bad when teeth coincided with my first PPAF recently. Hang in there!

Yes, totally normal. And ouch! I found it helped to rub DS's gums with my finger before putting him to the breast, it helped prevent him from rubbing them against my nipples.

Yep, this is how I was always sure that my son was teething. He's working on the 2 year molars now and in addition to the teething soreness he is nursing almost as frequently as a newborn!! I can't wait for those molars to break through.
