Dishwasher rinse aid?

We live in an area with very, very hard water and the lime has built up so badly in our dishwasher, the drawers will hardly open! Our dishes are covered in build-up and it's just a waste to even use it! Any ideas for a non-toxic rinse aid (besides just hand-washing!)? I've tried vinegar with little change in the dishes...

Have you tried adding some citric acid to the dishwasher fluid?

You might just need to scrub the dishwasher out really well

Attempted to make my own dishwasher detergent using citric acid in the past but got LOTS of residue on the dishes. I re-visited the vinegar option last night, after reading some ideas on tipnut.com. Started the cycle with no dishes (arg! wasted water!) and poured 2 c. of vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher after the initial water had run in. The dishwasher looked sparkly clean inside and I realized how much lime had been building up in there, causing the drawers to stick. The drawers again move in and out smoothly. However, the dishes are still filmy... Thanks for the idea, though!
