What are these bugs? And how do I convince them to stay outside?

Sorry, no picture. I live in southern BC. I have tons of these little ant-like things near the sliding glass door going outside. They are the size of sugar ants, and I would think they were sugar ants, except many of them also have wings. Are they winged ants? Or termites? Or what? any ideas? And how should I get rid of them? Borax & sugar? I vacuumed them, but they're already repopulating.

Thank you for the link. Very informative. They're ants. Of course, I should have known. This is the 3rd house I've lived in in as many summers, and every summer -- ants, ants, ants.
