I went to brunch and hand some bacon and later found out that the grill it was cooked on is coated in sesame oil. My 22 month old has an anaphalactic reaction to sesame. He nurses frequently. I am wondering if it is safe to nurse him or not. I scoured the internet and found little info on sesame oil allergies and nursing. He also has an anaphlactic allergy to cantaloupe and after I ate about a cup and a half of cantaloupe he was puking and having diarrhea for 24 hour. he also developed eczema on his bottom and face. I ate 3 pieces of the bacon that was cooked on the grill that had been oiled with sesame oil. What should I do? Thank you so so so much!

Do you have pumped milk in the freezer? You could pump and dump for the next several hours since that's when concentrations will be highest. I don't have experience with this situation so I don't feel qualified to give you medical advice, but I would wonder if your ds would be anaphylactic to sesame in your breastmilk the same way he would be to sesame straight into his system? You mentioned that he is anaphylactic to cantaloupe, but when you ate it he only had vomiting/diarrhea (I say only b/c it is less severe than shock, not b/c it isn't worrisome). This would lead me to believe that he reacts differently to the food in your system vs. his. Also sesame oil is different than sesame seeds- does he react the same way to both?

Sorry I can't be more helpful! I hope that someone else can assist you. Can you call a LC or your ped?

Also, I would x-post this in the allergy section. The mamas there know a lot!

I never dealt with ana with nursing. I'd ask on allergies here and also Kidswithfoodallergies forum. Can you call his allergist? I assume he has epi pens?

I'd be concerned but is sesame a high heat/refined oil?

My son is sesame anaphylactic. Most with sesame ana don't eat out at all in my understanding because there is so much cross contamination especially with all bread and cracker products containing sesame. There may be sesame free establishments but I would not eat out unless I knew there was no sesame in the kitchen. Then there is the problem of sesame cross with spices. We've not had my son eat out or anywhere with food I've not prepared since he was diagnosed.

update.....I was ultra careful with nursing him yesterday I nursed him as you would a kid with a tummy virus. I also gave him a dose of benadryl before bed because he nurses frequently through the night. We got through it and he did not react! Thanks for the advice and for listening. I had no idea there was an allergy forum on here. Thanks for the info on the other allergy site as well. We are still new to all of this!
