How much would you avoid soy if allergic to lentils & chickpeas?

I mentioned in my other thread that DH is allergic to lentils and chickpeas. He has not been formally tested, but after doing some reading here I encouraged him to get tested and possibly get an Epipen (?) He used to be able to eat both of them with no problems, and then suddenly started reacting to chickpeas. Lentils followed fairly soon after that. Symptoms are vomiting, extreme mucous formation, esophageal spasms, and lip swelling. This started a few years ago and he has just avoided them since then. Fortunately they are both easy things to avoid (although rather inconvenient based on our other dietary choices/restrictions, but obviously necessary to avoid!)

We are now looking at eliminating gluten and dairy for the kids, and we would like to all eat the same things at meals, so while DH and I will not be completely cutting those things out, our family meals won't have them. What I am wondering is how much we need to avoid soy? I read that soy and peanut allergies can go together. He is not allergic to peanuts, but apparently lentil and peanut allergies also tend to go together. So, does that mean that by having a lentil allergy he is more likely to develop a soy allergy? What about other beans?

We do not eat meat at home (DH eats it when he eats out), so I am trying to balance protein sources without suddenly making DH allergic to something else.

I would avoid soy just because using it a lot (and it is already in EVERYTHING) esp. the GMO stuff which is the most common form out there is nasty stuff.

I don't think you need to avoid soy completely, but I would definitely use it on a rotational basis. Since you're not eating meat at home and are avioding the two other foods, you'll need good protein sources. I would try to rotate those as much as possible to help prevent any other reactions from building up.
