Mildewy pillows, help!!

My dd sweats excessively at night, mostly on her head and neck due to her extremely thick hair. Over the past few weeks with the weather getting hotter and the added humidity, I've started seeing small black dots (mold/mildew?) on her sheets and pillow around where she lays her head. I tossed her old pillow and bought a waterproof cover for the new one, hoping to keep it from getting damp but I just checked it again and the new pillow has a few black dots I know you can technically wash pillows but it's never really gone well for me in the past, they end up lumpy and misshapen, plus they don't rinse well so I'm not confident I can eliminate the mold/mildew this way. So now I'm kind of stumped and don't know what to do next to replace her pillow. Maybe something easy to wash that can be washed often (couple times a week all summer) and naturally mold/mildew resistant would be a bonus. Does something like this exist?

IDK, but I wash our pillows occasionally w/o too much issue... I think they're 'synthetic down' or something??

Yeah ours are regular synthetic fill ones right now and they probably won't take a vinegar soak/rinse very well. I'm *this* close to making a pillow case out of sham-wows I don't really know what else to do...

Sorta unrelated, but a friend of mine does heavy duty neck wraps with oils for easier sleep when she's in pain - she always lays towels over her bedding to keep most of the oils off. You could try a large summer sleeping towel?

I wonder if a feather pillow would be less likely to get mildewey? We have some washable ones and imo, they actually wash better (though I do it less often) than the synthetic-filled pillows we've got. Wool would fit the bill, but wool pillows aren't always washable and are pricier so I dunno if that'd work out. Oh! In a pinch for guests, I'll fold up a blanket and stuff it in a pillowcase for an extra pillow - you could try that out for the summer with an old blanket, it'd definitely be more washable and might be more naturally airy.

What about a buckwheat pillow? Perhaps it would keep your DD's head cooler. Also, you could take the buckwheat hulls out periodically and wash the case.
