possible object in nose, advice needed now!- update

DD told me as she was falling asleep that she had a hair elastic stuck in her nose. It was an odd tale, involving an elastic falling into her nose and people who aren't here, so it might be true and it might not be. She is very into make believe and makes things up a lot. But she's never made up a tale of putting things into her nose.

My gut feeling is that she put an elastic in her nose and it may or may not still be there. She showed no distress, her breathing sounded completely normal - she was breathing through her nose - and she fell asleep soon after. Now I'm wondering what to do. Can I wait until the morning to investigate this, or should I do something about it now? What would you do?

It is a small, 1 cm diameter elastic, if that makes a difference.

Called the doctor this AM. They said as long as she seems fine, no need to do anything, just watch for breathing difficulties or discharge.

If you can see it, try and pull it out... I've had to get out the tweezers a time or two with one of mine. You can also gently blow into her mouth and if there's something in her nose it should come right out.

I read once on a blog that you can often get a popcorn kernel out of a nose by hold the other (non-plugged) nostril shut then asking the child to close her mouth and blow through her nose as hard as she can. It worked for the blogger...hopefully for you too!

If she seems ok though I'd be inclined to think she is ok.

Sorry...these things can be SUCH a stress. My dh's wedding ring went missing for a week and my dd (very young at the time) said that yes, she swallowed it (she had been playing with it). It was down a heating duct and retrieved, to everyone's relief.

Best of luck!

I looked and couldn't see anything. Maybe it's fallen out, or wasn't there to begin with. Her breathing still sounds fine, I'm thinking that if something were far up in her nose her breathing would sound odd. She wouldn't let me blow in her mouth, Even in her sleep she's a stubborn girl!

Yup! Clog the other nostril like the other posters said. My 2 yo did this with a bead recently and we had to go to the ER to get it out. So much drama for something so little. But it was lodged.

Mine got a raisin shoved up her nose and they ended up putting her under and flushing it out. A month later she shoved part of a chicken nugget up there. I actually just blew in her mouth and out it popped-had heard it from a friend. Hoping none of my other kids do it!
