How can I get cigarette smoke out of this room?

There's one room in my house that reeks of cigarette smoke. It's carpeted, and I'd hate to have to rip out the carpet bc it's only 3 yrs old.

Will shampooing & painting do the trick? I really want to turn it into a bedroom for my dd but I won't do it until the stench is gone!

Thanks!

For the walls, you'll need to paint with Kilz primer first and then regular paint. Without using primer, the smoke smell will come back.

I'm not sure about the carpet, but I would think that getting it professionally cleaned would be the best shot at it.

Try spraying in the room with vinegar, or set a bowl of it out in the room for a day or two. Just plain white vinegar will get cigarette smell out.

Yeah, if you paint, you have to use Kilz or the smoke smell will permeate through the new layer(s) of paint. I'd get the carpet professionally cleaned, too. If you have your own carpet cleaner, you can try that and after using the detergent and regular rinse, I'd personally put Bac-Out in the detergent reservior and do it again.
