Nursing VERY different this time?

So with DD I had massive engorgement, went from an A to a C, cracked and bleeding nips, always felt my let down and leaked constantly. I could shoot milk across the room.

This time, I'm not even that much bigger than my preggo boob size, no engorgement or cracked (yay!) no let down, no leaking.

DS nurses every 2 hrs but not as vigorously as DD did - (he likes to hang on the breast; DD was all business.) But he's still getting tons of milk - even when it doesn't feel like a lot, I know he's getting it b/c once it didn't feel like a lot of active nursing, but he urped and urped up what seemed like a gallon of milk! Plus we're getting at least 3-4 poops and 3-4 pees a day.

He was 7 - 15 at birth, 7-6 when we left the hospital and 7-8 at his 5-day old checkup.

Anyone else have radically different nursing experiences? THANKS!

I think all of mine have been different. With dd1, I don't remember ever needing any Lanolin. No cracking or anything but lots of engorgement and letdown. ds, I used about a half a tube of Lanolin in the 5 months I was nursing him. I leaked through nursing pads constantly. He wouldn't eat more than 4oz of pumped milk at a time without spitting up CONSTNATLY the remainder of the day, so I don't know that he was eating more than that. I must have just had very rich milk. dd2, I used an entire tube of Lanolin and bought a second in the 5 months I nursed her. They weren't engorged, but I could barely even look at my nipples without them hurting. She was latching properly, they just hurt. And the letdown was painful. It felt like little needles poking. This time, granted we're only 11 days in, is different, too. I have a bit of pain when she first latches on, but I've only felt like I needed Lanolin twice. I leak a little from the breast she's not nursing from, but not in between feedings really. I have had some size increase (which I can't complain about at all. I can use anything I can get in that department) but I've only really noticed mild engorgement pain a couple times when she was really really ready to eat. And the letdown pain is only once in awhile, again when she's gone a long time between feedings.

I'm just praying that this is the baby I have ample supply for. I had to stop nursing before I wanted to with all of them. dd1 was an allergy issue, ds was me needing gallbladder surgery, and dd2 was a supply issue where she lost weight at 5 months. 4th time's a charm?

Mine is!

My boobs grew massively with DD1, and i could spray milk and leaked gallons, but even with pumping at every feed (DD1 had one side and the pump had the other) i was able to pump about 4oz/day total.

This time the size is the same, but no spraying, quite painful let-down (wth DD1 it was a tingle in the unsucked breast, now it's like a strongish cramp), and if i pump the unsucked milk (one whole breast and the remains of the other) first thing in the morning only, that is ONE pumpin session, i'm getting 5-9oz a day. I have LITERALLY a gallon of milk in the freezer already! She was 8lbs8oz at birth, 8lbs11oz on day 5 and 9lbs6.5oz on day 18. I haven't wieghed her since, but she's definitely getting heavier!

So to me it feels like i'm maing a lot more milk but not having to try so hard - i was un-dx hypothyroid with DD1 and began to lose my milk at 4months PP last time (hence me putting a gallon of milk in my freezer this time, JIC) so probably having enough thyroxine makes the biggest difference with me.

Mine is also a little different, at least in the leaky part. I am quite a bit less leaky this time around. I mentioned it to my Mom, and she said she "thought" your breasts figured it out for the second time.

With DD, for the first month or so, when I nursed at one breast the other breast would just leak and leak and leak... I needed a cloth diaper to catch all the drips. I also could squirt milk across the shower.

This time around not so much leaking and squirting. I still have tons of milk, rather painful letdown and can hear DS's nursey noises (SO CUTE)... but way less leakage!

DS also sucks way different than DD did... he will relax and hang out at the breast eventually, but his initial latch is ALL BUSINESS!
