6MO & 3 days of bottlefeeding: Questions!

My DS is 6 months old. I will be having a procedure done that Hales deems acceptable (not ideal) while BFing. For my own comfort level, I pumped 2-3 days worth of BM for DS and I will be pumping and dumping throughout the next few days to keep up my supply. Well, the day is approaching tomorrow and now I'm freaked out.

Will my DS loose his latch in 2-3 days? He does very well going from bottle to breast, but he rarely gets a bottle anymore. Am I naive in thinking everything will be okay? I do plan to bottle nurse him and wear my nursing necklace. Also, he also seem to be an easily adaptable baby. Will any of that help? Any advice? Anyone BTDT?

If Hale deems it acceptable, I would too, especially at 6 months (as in, not a newborn).

There is no way to know how your son will handle the change - he may get back on the breast without skipping a beat, or he may reject it altogether.

My son went from bottle to breast (5 days of breast to 1 month of bottles then another month of getting him to the breast). After that, he started daycare at 4.5 months and was using bottles all day.

I think using a bottle with a wide nipple and making the baby latch onto the bottle like a breast is helpful. The goal is to mimic nursing using the bottle as much as possible in order to keep the change from being too drastic.

Although, at 6 months, you may be able to try a sippy cup to see how that goes.

My guess is that your DS will be pretty unhappy with not nursing and will probably try very hard to nurse you (so keep that in mind). He may reject the bottle too (so don't be alarmed with that either). I would definitely try seeing how a sippy cup may work (in case he does reject the bottle).

It may be a rough few days, but it is temporary.
