Total, in a 24 hour period?

DD is sleeping 8:30pm-5:30am every night, and usually just under an hour for naps, for a total of around 10 hours of sleep every day.

Everything I'm reading says that kids this age (she's 33mo) should be sleeping 12-14 hours total, per 24 hour period.

So... I'm curious if there are kids out there that actually sleep that much???

My dd will be three in august and sleeps about 11 hours at night. She only naps a few times a week and has for several months now, but she can nap anywhere from 1-2 hours depending on what we've been doing that day, when she does nap.

My ds was 3 in April, and sleeps each night for about 10-11 hours, and like the pp said, he only naps a few times a week for about 2 hours when he does nap.

Yep. Mine was two and a half last week, and he sleeps for about 11 hours per night (roughly 9 p.m. - 8 a.m.) with a two-hour nap. I have noticed his night sleeping going down a little bit -- he's headed to more like 10.5 hours per night.

DS is not quite 2.5, but he sleeps 11 hours a night. And naps 2-3 hours on the days he takes naps.

Thanks for all the replies. We used to be closer to 11 hours at night, but suddenly she just started sleeping less! I'm hoping it's just the longer days and that this isn't permanent...

Mine is 31 months, sleeps 9-10 hours at night with a 1-2 hour nap in the afternoon or, more rarely, 11+ hours at night with no nap.

I read that breastfed babies (and presumaby toddlers) sleep a bit less.

Mine is suddenly doing 10-11 hours a night and quitting naps. Previously we were closer to 14 hours with naps. My oldest daughter was sleeping 14-15 hours at this age, but she was an only child, and I am boring.

11.5 or 12

I think the ideal would be 12 to 13 hours for my 2.5 year old, but she tends to get around 10.5 at night and 1.5 during the day, for a total of 12. One thing that really helped increase night sleep recently was installing darkening curtains. In June, in a bright room, she was staying up until 10 pm or later and awakening at 4:30 am (the birds were singing at that hour and she was starting to get the morning sun that early!)

I am desperately trying to preserve the nap in hopes it helps her mood. Toddlers of that age can be challenging!

My twins are three. DD2 sleeps 12 hours at night, and takes a nap of about 90 minutes to two hours. DS sleeps about the same at night, and takes a shorter nap of about an hour. So they're about 13 to 14 hours in 24. My oldest daughter at this age slept about the same. We put a really big priority on sleep here, though. They turn into raving lunatics if they don't sleep that much.

I think they get the need for sleep from me--- I typically sleep 10 hours in 24 and am a zombie if I don't. My mom says I was always that way. My brother is the same. So I think there's probably some genetic component.

ds is 3 and sleeps from 8:30-9pm - 7-8am, and usually takes a 2 hr nap... so ~ 12-13. Occasionally he skips nap an thus goes to bed ~7-8pm instead of 8-9ish.

DD gets a little more sleep than yours, but her nighttime pattern is very similar. She falls asleep between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. and wakes up around 5:30 a.m. She does nap for 2 hours on average, although sometimes a little less.

I always marvel at people who have kids her age that sleep a lot.

My 3 yo sleeps between 10-12 hours most nights. He doesn't nap, but will usually go to bed about 10 pm and wake up at 10 am. This will vary by an hour or two either direction, though.

right about 10 and some change. She goes to bed (normally) at about 8:30 and we wake the kids at about 6. Her naps range from about a half hour to sometimes and hour and a half. I guess some kids just need less sleep? But latley with the summer days and all I'm lucky if I get her abed before nine. Sigh...

dd is 27mo. She sleeps around 11 hours at night (sometimes a bit less), 8ish to 7ish, and takes a consistent 1.5-2 hour nap in the morning.

At the same age, ds was probably getting 11 hours MAX in a 24-hr period. He wasn't a sleeper--still isn't.

My big girl dropped naps at about 27 months and slept 9 - 10 hours per night. Her lack of napping didn't impact her night time sleep either.

DS goes to bed at 7 and wakes up exactly 12 hours later. He still takes about a two hour nap during the day if we are home. If we're out and about he can skip it, but he gets pretty cranky if he misses it.

I'm grateful for such a great sleeper. The only *issue* we have is that the ONLY place he will sleep is in his bed. Not in the carseat, not with me, not anywhere else but his own bed in his own room. When we go on trips we have a heck of a time with sleep.

But I hate sleeping anywhere but my own bed too, so I see his point.
