Safe Food Storage and Serving Products?

Thread Starter
We are starting solids around here and my plan was to have everything ready that I needed before we started... but that didn't happen so much. I have been looking for some safe ways to store purees in the freezer and I'm really not finding much. The Beaba trays are BPA free but are made in China which kind of makes me question their quality. I was thinking about trying to just purchase some glass baby food jars, but are those ok to freeze?

I'm kind of having the same problem finding quality spoons, bowls etc. I just bought a couple small glass "custard bowls" at Target for now and are using some spoons that we got from a shower. (They are the "Take and Toss" spoons which seems sketchy to me- like they weren't made to last very long?)

I probably sound a little OCD about this, but I just want to make sure we have the safest products for her! Let me know if anyone has any recommendations!

Thanks!

Take-and-Toss aren't intended for regular use, they are intended as a "travel spoon" that you throw away when you're done. Which is weird to me, I just wipe off my son's spoon when we're out and about and put it back in the diaper bag.

We love our Green Sprouts cornstarch baby spoon. It doesn't hold flavor (some of the Gerber metal spoons with soft bowls did this - I tasted the spoon one day to see what he kept making faces at it and it tasted like dish soap and baby food :yuck ), it wipes clean really easily and washes easily. It is not dishwasher safe, though.

For serving dishes, I used some BPA-free breastmilk storage cups. I didn't think we needed to buy anything special to serve in and leftovers got to go straight into the fridge with a screw-on top instead of being transferred into yet another dish.

I freeze the purees in cubes, then remove them from the tray and store them in ziploc freezer bags so I can reuse the trays. I use either ice cube trays, or these trays from kidco that are BPA free: http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Steps-Freezer-Trays-Pack/dp/B000A6KOW8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1278372140&sr=8-1. As far as the BPA free thing goes, I've heard that it has to do more with reheating the food in the plastic containers. But I still go BPA free on as much as I can.

As far as the serving dishes and spoons go, I use some BPA free dishes I found at either target or BRU. The spoons are the metal kind with the soft bowl like the PP was talking about, but we haven't had the same problem (yet).

Good luck!
