July Eating for Wellness Challenge~!!

Ok, this is my first attempt at "organizing" a challenge! So, it might be a little lacking order! I think I'm going to go steal guidelines for another challenge, and modify them to be about food

Basically just introduce yourselves, let us know what goals you have, and come back here to record how you are doing. You can make goals about anything you want... limit sugar, or salt, or fat, or carbs. Eat a more balanced diet, or include more grains. Add veggie or fruit servings, get more calcium, iron, whatever!
List your main goals, the things you really feel you need to stick to and have the most trouble with. The accountability that comes with publicly posting your progress is really encouraging. MDC hosts challenges for frugality, decluttering, and now a better diet!

Once you have your goals, set up a system for yourself to record how you are doing. It can be very loose or very specific. However you want to do it.

Example:

no sugar today!
8 grams of sugar or less
18 or less grams
30 or less
40 or less

But you can record this however you want. It can just be

good
bad

And, that's pretty much it, I think. So, I hope this is fun and encouraging for everyone who participates~!

I'm in! Hope you get some more people on board. I have been really motivated the last two weeks, but I need some oomph to get me over the final hump, I think.

s Hi!
I'm Jen... stay at home mommy of my two kiddos, my 3yo ds and 1yo dd. I am trying to improve so many areas of my life and self right now that I'm going to keep my goals pretty easy... basically just

1. Having a healthier sleep schedule. Down before 11 if I can and up at 6:30.
2. At least stretch, hopefully some exercise
3. Eat more grains
4. Cut sugar and junk
5. Buy, prepare and eat lots of fresh veggies and fruit

I don't want to make my list too long, but I also really need to keep up with my supplements and calcium intake. And at the moment I am trying to get a lot of cleansing foods, like garlic and apple cider vinegar are the only ones I am consuming right now.

Sounds great! I hope we get a few more people on this thread.

Here are my goals:

1. Eat a limited grain/high protein breakfast.
2. Eat vegetables at every meal.
3. Eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full.
4. Eat fewer grains and sugars overall.

I think I need to narrow some of those down, but I've been doing pretty well so far. My ultimate goals are to have more energy, fewer carb/sugar crashes per day, and finish losing my last 5 lbs of baby weight (I've lost 10 so far).

I have played with a couple of ideas to make these goals happen so far, but I'm open to suggestions.

7/7 didn't eat much throughout the day today, was fairly distracted. Did have a huge salad for dinner though! Hopefully tomorrow I will get some baking done and we can have some yummy grain muffins.

w00t! Go you!

I did today! Ate elk kebabs and lima beans for breakfast (boy, I feel so much better when I eat non-breakfast foods for breakfast!). I cut my portions down pretty well and didn't eat hardly any sugar today (minus a few chocolate chips this evening ).

Didn't eat vegetables at lunch, but I did have an apple. Got a lot of my kitchen stuff done for the rest of the week too: cleaned one chicken and cooked another, baked bread, and got broth going in the crock right now.

Wow! what a breakfast! does elk taste anything like moose meat? there is somewhere near us to buy it, but I haven't yet because I have no idea what it tastes like

today was I rode the kids around on my bike for... 45 minutes or so. raisin bagel for breakfast, broccoli slaw for lunch, apple as a snack and pasta, meatball and homemade roll for dinner. not too bad! oh, and almost half a package of uncrystalized ginger for desert! and I have a goal of more calcium! (I consume almost none, somehow!) so I'll have a tall glass of milk with yogurt before bed

InMediasRes- I really wish I could skip the breakfast foods sometimes, but my family is breakfast crazy! my dh and ds could literally eat it twice a day and never tire of it!

It depends on where the elk live, how old they are, and what they eat. The one we have tastes very much like grass-fed beef. I love moose too, and I can't really make much of a taste comparison because it's been a while since I've had it. My dad goes hunting every year and usually has way more meat than he knows what to do with, so we get some of it.

Nice job on the exercise! I actually walked to the store today (about a 1/2 mile) w/ DD on my back. My DS (3yo) actually walked the whole way and did really well. I think that's the longest he's gone without someone carrying him some of the distance.

I did today. I'm running out of fruit and veggies, so I didn't do so well there. I did pretty good with the carbs though. Breakfast was leftover chicken sausage, more limas and milk; melon and a Clif bar at the store; turkey and provolone on homemade wheat for lunch and an apple; bruschetta for a snack; tilapia, green beans, and bread w/ butter for dinner.

I don't think I drank enough water today and I definitely had too much coffee.

Great thread, can I join?

Hey Mama's! I feel like I've found my tribe for the summer! I have been trying to improve my health and lose some weight this summer and am lacking a support group. Over the past year, I went back to work (after being home/homeschooling for 12 years)....my job requires much sitting/computer work and I have somehow gained 30 pounds this year! It's so depressing....my vegetarian/organic eating habits have miserably suffered....as many nights we drove through between work/school and evening sports activities.
Anyway, as a school employee, I have most of the summer off! I've been unsuccessful at making it to the Y every morning, which was my goal....seems I'm gettting there just 1-2 times per week. I need motivation/prompting...I'm in a depressed rut....
SO....subbing!

I'm back!

Boy have we had a rought two weeks. DH is working serious overtime for a deadline, and everyone is exhausted. That doesn't make eating well any easier.

I'm doing okay today. I had salmon and quinoa with black beans for breakfast. Drinking my second cup of coffee . I'm not doing so hot on portion control, but I think I'm just about to start AF, so I'm giving myself a little break to eat more.

Back tonight for more details.

How are you, bluebirdiemama? And welcome Apmommmato3 . Sounds like you found the right place! If you haven't been aroudn the board much, there is also a fitness and weight management section that has support groups for losing weight and exercising as well.
