I am looking for suggestion on where to buy 100% wool felt in nice bright primary colors. The fabric shops by me only sell muted earth tones. Spam me with you sources or any great deals.
Thank you!!

you can dye it yourself for more fun added to the product. otherwise, i don't know. because my sources are in NZ!

Gossamer Rose on Etsy. http://www.etsy.com/shop/gossamerrose
She's the only one I buy my wool felt from and I am so lucky to live near her store now : She has more wool felt than you could ever imagine in every color you could think of and will cut it any size, so if you convo her on Etsy she'll help you out, for sure. Her prices are great, too.

Did I talk her up enough?! Ha,ha. Whatcha making???

You, Miss Nicole, are the inspiration for what I am TRYING to maybe possibly make. From when you made this http://frontierdreams.blogspot.com/2...ng-babies.html
I can't get it out of my head, so I am going to try to make one for our upcoming baby girl. If I can't pull it off, I will get my fabulous friend and neighbor Jen to help me or do it for me, she puts Martha Stewart to shame and is always willing to come to my rescue.
Thanks for the link -- great etsy shop resource!

Oh great resources, thank you! I still haven't ordered because I am stuck stuck stuck on choosing a colorway. I truly hate pink. But I want something feminine since I will be having a girl. I know cool color combos when I see them, but I am terrible at coming up with them myself.

there are so many colors to choose from, it can be difficult deciding on the colors. and sometimes a little more difficult shopping online and not seeing them in person. janet at felt on the fly is so wonderful to work with, i am sure she would come up with something great for you.

i know how you feel about pink. i used to feel the same way but pink has grown on me through the years, ever since my little a was born.

Great thread. I've been looking to make one of those felt blocks, too. I saw some simple instructions in Amanda Soule's book and I have been aspiring to make one ever since! Does anyone have any helpful embroidery links (for doing the designs?) for someone who has never ever embroidered? BTW, I love the block you made, Nicole, so beautiful!

I swear by Weir Dolls & Crafts. Happy making!

Ok you guys, you are being wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too kind. Thank you for your sweet words
I totally hear you on the pink. I liked pink for myself but was very anti-pink for my oldest until she was about a year old, then I fell head over heels in love, and well you know how everything seems to be pinkish for the girls now : Not saying you will love pink, hee, hee, but that's my silly story.
The block I made for my friend was made in the colors she decorated her baby's room in but I really loved that blue in it. I think a turquoise would be pretty yet not too girly-girl for the block, and hey it's kind of sea-like, right? Fitting for a baby at sea, no?
I can't wait for you to have your baby!!!!!!!!

calming down now....

Nicole - you are making me laugh with your story of pink. I know I can't avoid it altogether, but... I am not giving in to it... just... yet...

I am thinking since there are 6 sides I may either do a rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) or perhaps go with turquoise (love!) and purples and yellow and lime green... something like that. Or does that sound too psychedellic? Anyhow, I think I will order the felt in the next week and just go for it. I will post here when I finish if it's not too terrible looking.

Now to decide on the little embroidery designs... hmmmm....?

Thank you for the sweet enthusiasm Nicole! I am dreaming of fall when the baby is on the outside and the weather is cool and crisp.

I don't think either sound too psychedellic at all. And darn it, it's NOT going to be too terrible looking AT ALL! I am not allowing that kind of talk It will be perfect and wonderful and she will love it

For my daughter, no one would listen to be about pink and they bought so much pink pink pink. Luckily for us, her skin tone doesn't suit the baby pinks (she is half puerto rican with skin tone to die for), she needs more of the jewel tones.

What I do now? Rainbows. Omg, we love rainbows at our house. I am in the process of making my daughter new bedding. At our local fabric store there is this fabric that is the colours of the rainbow, but with one difference. Once bolt is the cooler colours (green, blue, violet) and the other bolt is the warmer colours(red, orange, yellow). We are going to do her duvet cover with the cooler colours on one side and the warmer colours on the other. What if you did something like this? Do the blocks in the cooler colours (which I think are beautiful for a little girl). Do lime lime green, grass green, baby blue, turquoise, violet and then indigo. I think that would be lovely.

my husband spent a lot of time on your blog the other night. he goes "it's pretty dreamy, i have to admit, but are we at all sea-faring?" LOL

but, otherwise, he likes "the way that anthroposophy/waldorf makes things real."

That's funny! True, this life afloat is not for everyone. You really have to love sailing first and foremost. Since we can not be out sailing full time at the moment, we make the most of dockside life. But I can't wait to be out and traveling again!

well, this is us:

we love to travel. when we are on small boats, it's lovely, and we enjoy it. when we are on ferries and the like, it's horrible.

we've never really been "out to sea" mostly short trips around a sound, up a coast, etc. nothing too major. i love it, but we admit we don't know how to sail.

we are looking at joining the local yacht club (which has a "friends of" membership for only $150 per annum for a family) which can get us discounts on lessons and the like, which we think will be a particularly good activity for the kid, considering his various strengths.

anyway, we are still considering it, and our friend is still considering selling their boat, and so it's floating out there in space a bit. it would be at least 3-5 years before anything comes of it, and of course, once we agree to take the boat (assuming we do), they will help us learn how to sail that particular boat, as i understand they all have quirks.
