long solo car ride during first tri

The thread about flying in the first tri got me thinking. I'll be making a 13 hour drive when I'm about 10 weeks. My ds (almost 5 years old) will be with me, but I'll be the only adult. Then, a week later, I turn around and drive 13 hours back home.

I'm only 4 1/2 weeks right now, so I don't really have many symptoms, but if past experience is an indicator, by 10 weeks I'll be experiencing the typical extreme tiredness and nausea.

Do you think it's foolish to make the trip? It is a vacation that was planned long ago. I'm considering breaking the trip into two days.

I would probably break it up into 2 days. I know 6.5 hours is doable in one day, but 13 is very long for everyone, especially when pregnant and exhausted. Also, pack TONS of water and high-protein snacks. Those can really help you get through the nausea of those early days. Make sure they are open and easy to reach without taking your eyes off the road. Of course, stop frequently - probably necessary, regardless, with a 4-5yo.

I did a 14 hour drive by myself when I was 10 weeks but I broke it into two days because I was traveling with a two year old. It was manageable, but I had a Zofran prescription. I could have done all of the driving in one day if my daughter would have cooperated.

Now in the second trimester just being a passenger for much shorter trips (4-6 hours) absolutely kills my back.

I am 7 weeks and about to embark on a trip to western Canada and back from the eastern USA. I planned this trip a year ago. I'll be doing it by myself with my three kids.

It is totally possible. Just be ready to snack, pee, rest and take it easy as much as possible. We are going in our little RV which makes it easier on me... I'll have my own bathroom!

I don't think I will make 13 hour days though.
