Prometrium DURING ovulation?

Hi ladies, I've had a hard time finding info about this so any input would be greatly appreciated. There is a lot of info posted about women taking Prometrium (aka progesterone pills) AFTER ovulation during the luteal phase, however I was told to take it starting a few days before ovulation and all through ovulation and am still on it until the bottle finishes (about another week) plus it's at a pretty high dose.

Do you know if this would prevent the follicle from releasing the egg and prevent ovulation? I have read that progesterone is produced after ovulation to prevent further follicles from stimulation, so not sure the effects of taking it right before and during ovulation. Please if you know I would really appreciate any info on this. I'm afraid if my IUI went to waste and am stressing over this. Thanks.

progesterone is the main hormone in most ovulation suppressing birth control because, yes, taking it before you ovulate can stop you from ovulating that cycle.

I would discuss with your doctor why exactly they had you start taking it when they did... since they should know more than we do.

I went to a doc that prescribed prometrium for days 5-12. i was sooo confused...cause everything I read said you should take it AFTER ovulation (4dpo). I called the doc's office and asked for an explanation and really couldn't get one. So, i got a second opinion. Progestrone is a hormone that keeps your lining from shedding too early, thus allowing attachment. I am taking clomid days 5-9 and then taking prometruim 4-14 DPO. My point: i would get a second opinion
