is my chicken ok?

I put a whole chicken that was frozen solid in my fridge on Saturday night. Yesterday morning it was still frozen to some extent (there was visible ice). It appears that I left the door to the fridge partially open last night when I got a drink out. This happened no earlier than 9:30PM last night. I didn't really notice that the chicken felt warm at all, but other things in the fridge are not cold (like the 1/2 gal of milk that was sitting in the front). The chicken was *not* sitting right in the front and it was on the second shelf. It is hot here these days; I am sure it was >80 in my kitchen all night.

So, about 10 hours later is my chicken ok? I have it in the crock pot as I didn't really realize what had happened until after getting it in the crock pot. So, I can't really attest right now to how cold it was. And if it makes any difference, this chicken was frozen within hours of being killed and was hand dressed, so there was no fecal contamination or anything like that (sorry for the graphic, but not sure if that makes any difference).

Well, I see I got a lot of hits but no one wanted to offer an opinion. We ate it....and none of us got sick. I guess it was ok. I called my mom to ask her if she thought it was ok. She thought it was and after telling me she said "I wouldn't leave the fridge door open like that again"....gee mom, do ya think?!?!

I would not have risked it, at all. I have heard that food poisoning can take many hours (up to 24?) to show up, but hopefully that's not accurate. In any case, if you ate it, it tasted fresh and good, and everyone is feeling fine, then I'm sure you will all be fine.

I would have eaten it. But then I sometimes thaw chicken breasts at room temp and it hasn't made me ill yet.

I would have eaten it too. I think you did the right thing though and eating it ASAP. I don't always thaw things the "right" way, but only when I'm going to prepare it and eat it right away, and we've never gotten sick. To me it also depends on the type of meat. If it's conventional, factory farmed meat, I try to be more careful, if it's meat I bought right from a farmer, and was pastured, then I don't worry as much.
