Haha! My husband was notorious for rejecting EVERY SINGLE NAME I came up with last pregnancy. So I told him to come out with some names he liked.
His choices (I swear I'm not making this up):

Detroit
Sand

Ummm, no. I am not naming my child Detroit or Sand.

We're currently arguing over the last name. I want to use mine. He wants to use his. I tried to compromise, as in, "If we have a girl, we'll use mine; if we have a boy, we'll use his" (or vice versa), but he wouldn't agree to the compromise, either. I thought that was the perfect solution because it would be like flipping a coin (since we have no way of knowing yet what the kiddo will be). Argh.

We don't know what our last name will be when we get married. We both were estranged from our father's when we were growing up, so there is no strong pull for either of us to keep our last name. We have narrowed it down to two last names. I like Moss, but my sweetie favors Sorus. (We are both crazy about dinosaurs. I can almost bring myself to his point of view, but I think the joke might get old after a while.)

Sorus! LOL. I don't know if I would want everyone to laugh every time they heard my name, but that is a good one.
Just as long as you don't name your kid a name that ends in "a":
Helena Sorus
Maria Sorus
Paula Sorus.....please, somebody stop me.

LOL! Before we settled on a Z name for DS, we were toying with the name "Bodhi Lucien"...but we couldn't stop laughing about the upcoming "BODHI-LUTION!!!!!"

Oh wow, it does look like there are going to be a lot of Harpers in 2010! I love that name too. I have a few ideas, but I'm not sure yet, especially on boy names.

Girl: (I want to use Harper or Hazel for a middle name)
Olivia - my top pick, but I know it's super trendy now
Sarah/Sara - DH is pushing hard for this one.
Claire
Sophie
Isla

Boy: (We would use James for the middle name)
Alexander
Theodore
Sebastian
Anthony
Frank

DDCC-

LMFAO oh that made me really laugh!

Ive had three names that you can make fun of. Unfortunately, I was not able to choose them. One was a brand name of a very famous soup company... My family embraces that and most of their license plates are Soup##

My second name was one that people only find amusing around Christmas. The only annoying part was that we NEVER got a Christmas card that DIDN'T have our last name on it. Way to be original people!

My current name is just weird (literally, part of it is weerd, pronounced weird)

I love it, its unique and weird and while I JUST got it (married DH last month) I do not see myself getting sick of it... his entire family embraces it just like my family embraces the soup connection.

So I say... since its not Saurus... go for it. Lots of people will never say anything, and the ones that do will likely all be people with a good sense of humor that get a kick out of it!

Plus you could do some REALLY things involving your family as dinosaurs!

Thanks for all of the encouragement! I told my family today about the possibility of Sorus as a last name and they loved it. What have I done?
(I already have a goofy last name, rhymes with giggle.)
Sooooo sorry to hijack this thread.

I have no clue what we are doing for names with this one. I have a huge spreadsheet, but none of them are really appealing to me right now. I figure DH and I will figure it out eventually, but right now we have nothing really.

Here is some of my current girl's list:

Georgia (My current top choice, I like it, it goes with my other two kids names, it would be after my Grandfather George who died a month before DD was born, but I can't get past the fact my parents live in Georgia, plus it is a little to popular for me)

Acacia
Morwenna
Lyra
Iris
Maeve
Violet
Rowena
Rosalind
Romilly
Fiona
Penelope
Portia
Geneva
Genevieve
Hazel

Boys:

Emmett
Alastair
Beckett
Finn
Henry
Hamish
Truman
Griffin
Callum
Gareth

DDCC to say:

my 6yo DD's name is Clara too. I love her name and it suits her well. I named her after my favorite star trek the next generation episode. (I really like star trek, hence my user name.) It's the one where the girl name Clara has an imaginary friend named Isabella who ends up being an alien. My DD's name is Clara Isabella.

Totally OT but what's "DDCC" mean?

Also.... We've picked Augustus Samuel for a boy... and watching Willy Wonka and the fat kid at the beginning that falls in the chocolate river? Augustus! *sigh*

I'm guessing this is quite a wild story for most people to process, but here's how the name thing went down for me...

I had a dream that I was pregnant (hadn't been trying - this took me quite by surprise to say the least).

Later that night, the baby revealed itself very clearly as a girl. I told it that I was fine either way, boy or girl, and got a clear, "But I'm a girl!!!". She and I kept arguing (lol), "but really, I don't mind either way"..."I know, but I'm a girl!!!". (I am joyfully fine with being completely wrong on this, but she was insistent so I gotta trust the communication for now)

Then I immediately had a dream where she revealed herself as Yemma, the Oversoul (or Deva) of the Flowers. She represents beauty, fertility, creating and growing. She said, "I hope you like Yemma, 'cause that's who I am".

Okaaaayyy...Yemma it is, I guess. Never a name I have ever heard or considered. I *always* choose names I like, then pick once the baby is born.

So I email a friend about all of this. Suddenly, my computer goes berserk for a moment and starts to write the words "Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma Yemma" COVERING the entire top half of my desktop background. Leaving the bottom half my original background picture, which is a photo of my oldest son holding his baby brother the first minute he met him.

So the computer just showed the word Yemma and a newborn baby.

Weirdness..

So Yemma. Yeah.
