new tv- how do I keep it safe from toddler

We currently have a tube tv and my son loves to bang on it when its on. We'll my husband has been saving up for a while for a special item- a flat screen tv.

I'm afraid that our little man will go bang bang on our new tv and $500 will be wasted. We're looking at an LCD tv. Little man is only 12 months, but he loves to climb and has already managed to climb on top of our old tv and it's four feet tall.

I don't want to say no to the tv because my husband has worked so hard helping me with the baby, but shot of mounting the tv to the ceiling I'm not sure I'm going to be able to keep my highly energic little man off of the new tv.

Any suggestions? Would a plasma tv be more durable? Is there a good stand that keeps him from reaching the tv? If I mount it to the wall, he will soon enough start stacking things on top of the tv stand to get to it. I don't know what to do.

Mount it to the wall and remove all furniture beneath it? Save the money and wait a few years when he won't be so excited about it that he'll beat on it?

We got a flat screen a few years ago, it is a plasma. My youngest is 2y2m and she is now just getting interested in it. I would definitely mount it high as you can, and probably no furniture under it. Then, just be vigilant about keeping baby off of it.

either mount it or get a cabinet that closes and latches. We have our tv in a closed, latched cabinet so ds has no access to it unless we are allowing him to watch something.

having the tv closed off is great because he usually does not ask to watch anything (out of sight out of mind kinda deal) and it means that the focal point of our living room is not the television.

Hmm... a cabinet that closes and latches. I have to do some peeking now to find one. Still thinking about mounting, but I need a place for the dvd player too nearby and dvds and I'm afraid he'll use that spot to reach a mounted tv.

even with a cabinet make sure that is strapped to the wall.

DS used to touch the screen on our LCD, but after many reminders not to he hasn't bothered with it for months. We've also worked a lot on teaching to only roll balls in the house, not throw

If you're really worried, they sell protective covers that shield the TVs, here's one store: http://www.tvshields.net/home.php
