Heat this week in NJ & being outdoors w/ 5 mo???

It is really, REALLY hot this week in NYC/NJ...like 98-100. We have been staying in the AC as much as we can but close friends are taking all their kids to a reservoir tmrw & I am having 2nd thoughts as to whether or not I should be doing that with the baby?

I have an umbrella for while I am sitting on the beach & a solarveil sling I could use to bring her in the water with me & our toddler but I guess I am wondering if it's just too hot to bring a 5 mos old outside?

Last weekend we were out both days for a concert in Brooklyn but it was only in the mid/high 80s. This is a seriously different level of heat.

I haven't done sunscreen on her yet & would like to avoid it for as long as possible, but just the walk from the car to the beach, setting up, walking back & forth from the chair to the water...it just seems like she will be exposed to some major heat & sun? Or am I being a wimp myself because it's such hard work in high temps? lol

WWYD?

It sure is hot, huh??

I don't think it's a huge deal - just stay hydrated, keep your baby hydrated. Nurse often. Stay in the shade. Go in the water. Use a baby friendly sunscreen, put a little hat on her head. I would just try to stay cool. It's going to be horrid out there for you in the heat, too, so just make sure you drink plenty, too.

I wouldnt do it. We are in PA, and the weather reports are all saying that the air quality is terrible, and not safe for kids or old people. Also, according to state regs, daycares/etc can not bring the kids out for playtime because it is unsafe. I wouldn't bring a baby out in that- they just aren't able to control their body heat at that age. Plus add in having to regulate between super hot air temps and then cold water temps- not that great of a mix for a small infant. My 2yo still has a hard time regulating her temp between the pool and hot air- She goes purple very easily and then shivers for a long time trying to warm up.

thx for feedback! don't know how i managed to post this in toddlers instead of infants (although this heat is enough to make you worry about our toddlers too!)

there was mention of doing the pool at one of the gals parents house instead-that way, we can hang inside if it gets bad. we'll see what everyone decides...
