Ok so I've had my KitchenAid mixer for almost 20 years, just the basic model. I've had a bunch of the attachments I've used over the years, including the meat grinder one, which now has developed a crack in the plastic housing.
I was looking to upgrade since mine only has about 250 watts, but after reading all the complaints over the change to the plastic gear box and seeing the rave reviews on the Cuisinart stand mixer I decided to give it a try and bought the 5 1/2 quart model.
So I've had the Cuisinart stand mixer for about a week. So far I'm made a carrot cake and cream cheese frosting and done some regular mixing chores and really like it. One of the reasons I chose it was it's 800 watts plus the meat grinder attachment is actually metal, unlike the plastic housing on the Kitchen Aid.
Today we got back from Whole Foods with some nice organic lamb and beef I wanted to grind. So we set it up and double ground some short ribs and chuck roast for burgers and some leg of lamb with a nice fat cap for kofta and moroccan meatballs. Both came out beautifully and the mixer did not stain in the least.
One thing I never liked about my Kitchen Aid was the fact that it shakes a lot when kneading bread dough. Tomorrow I'm making some burger buns and so I'll test out how the Cuisinart compares. I'll post a review after.
