I wanted to see what others had to say about them.
They look great!

yes, we love the BF recommendations and have used a lot of them from the american history recommendations. we especially LOVE the d'aulaire books! your library probably has them. i'd say they are definitely worth checking out & even purchasing. i also own the matchlock gun, pilgrims of plimoth, courage of sarah noble, 4th of july story, george washington's breakfast, squanto, and boys and girls of colonial days. the only one my kids didn't enjoy is boys and girls of colonial days (which you can preview for free at google books). it's not a bad book, it just didn't hold their attention for whatever reason. i've also seen poor reviews of america's providential history, but i've not actually seen it myself to have an opinion. hth.

ETA, we used american pioneers and patriots & my kids did love that! i'm not sure if BF recommends it, but heart of dakota does... http://www.christianbook.com/america...N&view=details you can also see it at google books (the older version).

I really like that other book you mentioned Amy.

For BF, did you just get the books individually or did you get the Early American History Primary Study Guide too? I was thinking of just picking up the books individually and supplementing as needed. We are most likely going to do half of the year SOTW and half early American history. These books look great!

yep, i just buy the books individually or check them out from my library. i'm sure the BF guide is goo too, i just am too scattered to follow it, lol. the BF books go nicely with sonlight books, heart of dakota books, and winter promise, my father's world, etc (any curriculum with living books and a specific time period usually complement one another). i just mix and match them all. a couple of other great books that we own and love (and read every year) are:
sarah morton's day
samuel eaton's day
squanto's journey

amazon has great prices on any books your library doesn't carry. i've had good luck at homeschool classifieds too.
