Resolved: Why is the "first new post" link session-specific instead of thread-specific?

I don't often have time to read every forum I'm interested in, but if I read a few of them and then close my browser, when I come back to read the rest and click the little "first new post" arrow I'm not brought to the first new post since I last checked that thread, but rather the first new post since I opened my new browser window, meaning that I've usually missed several posts and have to scroll back to try to find where I was.

On other discussion boards I participate in, it seems that the "first new post" link is thread-specific, rather than session-specific, so I'm always brought to my previous stopping point no matter how many times I close/open browser windows before getting through them all. Is there a reason we're unable to do that on this site?

Is this something new? Or has it always been this way?

I believe the new posts feature here is simply the new posts since you have logged in last. So it is a session related thing.

It's been that way ever since I've been a member, I just got around to complaining about it.

I guess I'm saying, I know the capability exists because other boards have it set up so users can pick up right where they left off no matter how many times they log in/out -- any plans of getting that capability here at MDC?

I don't know of any plans to make it work that way, but I will bring it up.

UPDATE on 11/22: The "first new post" link is thread-specific with the new format -- woo hoo, thanks mods!!!!  It's so awesome to read just what I can and not be worried that I'll miss out on a bunch of stuff if I close the browser by accident.
