3 year old - strange, angry behavior

IDK what to call this. My DD is adorable and sweet, but she can get a little hyper and when she does, she doesn't act silly she acts angry. She says she's not angry, but she makes very angry looking faces and noises, kind of like growling. She directs most of the behavior toward my 9 month old son, who at this point laughs at everything she does. But, i don't want him learning these ugly sounds so young and I want my DD to understand that people don't enjoy being around someone who seems like they are angry. She will even get right up in your face and do this growling thing - nostrils flares, teeth clenched.

Is this normal? I'm just not sure how to handle such unpleasant behavior, especially since she just claims to be playing.

just a phase, maybe, experimenting with different behaviours and people`s reactions to them?

fwiw, my dd (4 next month) is having a lot of fun with angry faces and noises, and also with doing something (anything!) and asking "was that funny?" I think she is just trying for reactions, and we mostly just laugh, or, if it is getting to be a bit much, pretend she is doing nothing unusual.

dunno, dd doesn`t push it to a point that bothers me, so hard to say whether this is just one that doesn`t push my buttons much (plenty of other behaviors do, of course!) or if your dd is at another level. interesting to see what other kids do!
