Disposables for a week....

We are going camping for a week with my family. We use cloth diapers but will not be able to launder any for over a week. (no, seriously, there is no laundry service for well over an hour and a half away) so we can't use our cloth dipes. Now the question is, what do I buy for a weeks worth of disposables? Which brand is least likely to cause diaper rash, etc. on my poor little guys bottom? Eco friendly would be nice too....but my primary concern is my ds 's bottom!

That is a tough question to answer, we just went with store brand when we needed sposies for a camping trip.

Has he ever used a disposable?

I vote no for papmers, we used those on DD and they gave her a rash.

We like the Target brand for disposables.

Are you going to have access to water? You could buy some cheapy Gerber flats or use receiving blankets, then wash the pee ones by hand and hang them to dry on a laundry line.

I dont like pampers either. I think huggies are better, but like 7th gen even more so - for being eco friendly.

OK, so wash the pee ones & do what with the poop ones - throw them away? I guess that would be more eco friendly than throwing out a disp diap. But what about the covers? If you get a poopy explosion onto a cover, would just hand washing & line drying in the sun be OK? I guess its only for a few days & not an ongoing thing.

I'm going to be in an area in the mountains where there is water, but wells run dry quickly. Water is a precious commodity. We just dont to laundry there. I was just going to post a Q about this too.

for EBF poo I would totally just rinse out the covers and dry them in the sun too. I might even just rinse out the poo and dry and try using it again. See how it smells or something first. If the poo ones cannot be reused, then I would probably burn them in the fire

nature baby care diapers are biodegradable and disposable!

I use disposable wipes and diapers while camping. No rashes with the Huggies or Target brand of diapers, though the Target brand is scratchier. The disposable wipes have caused irritation though--never from the Huggies brand, but the sensitive skin "safe for newborns" Target brand of wipes did cause irritation to by daughter's skin.

I'm surprised at how many votes for Target and Huggies....I thought there would be more thoughts on 7th generation...only one person seemed to mention those....anyone else use those?

No, he's never had disposables other than the first package from the hosp....didn't have a problem then, but it was only pee from an infant.

When we use disposables on vacation we use either 7th generation or Huggies Pure and Natural. We've had good luck with both.

We used to use Pampers, but when they switched to the Dry Max my DD was one of the unfortunate ones to end up covered in blisters. So I would highly recommend staying away from them.

We used 7th generation here once with dd1, after quite a few of them in a row she did get a tad rashy (we all have really sensitive skin though, and she had a lot of rash-y issues throughout diapering).
If you're worried (and have the room), I'd bring a handful of flats or pf that you wouldn't mind washing by hand and maybe just go coverless with those once or twice a day as a break if you end up with skin issues from sposies, or just go diaperless around nature here and there - it's used to it.

i've used seventh generation dipes when DS had a huge BM in babies r us (after a week of constipation and laxatives!) I liked them they are soft and very flexible. When we go away we use nature baby care though. I prefer them to seventh gen only because they are biodegrable!

While I could handle him being 'naked in nature' the rest of my family could not...and we are talking about 20 some other people aside from my dh, ds and dd......

and with that many people sharing only two bathrooms, we're lucky to get a turn at the potty let alone use the sink for washing anything! LOL.....

so while I like the idea of the flats for someday future trips, this one won't work.....

I guess I'll take a look at the huggies and the 7th G tomorrow at the store....maybe I should buy a little of both? I thought about taking my BG's just for nighttime use....MAYBE I could rinse them in the creek....do you think it would ruin them to just rinse and wait till the end of the week to wash them...that's 7-8 days without really washing them with detergent or anything?

We do the same on camping trips. Diapers get super gross hanging out in a black trash bag for a week in the back of the car! Washing there is a nice idea, but between high adventures, cooking and keeping camp neat, I can't imagine finding the time! I've used the pure and natural huggies and the Earth's Best wo a problem.

I would probably just use sposies too... I get really anal about how my cloth is treated (and am currently struggling with some stains that WILL NOT BUDGE grr) so sitting without washing for a week in hot sticky weather is a no go for me.

I've found the only diaper I really like are the 7th gen ones. I also only like earths best wipes... the 7th gen wipes are always too dry for me. the huggies pure and naturals felt really weird to me.

I've never heard of nature baby care diapers but looking them up, I'd have to order them if I'd want them. It looks like they are imported to America and none are in any of the select target or toys r us locations near me. They look interesting and possibly really nice although they aren't 100% biodegradable. Their website as of march recommends not composting them and instead using their disposal bags and putting them in the trash. They get good reviews online though so they can't be bad regardless! I'd try them if I didn't have to order.

For now, I'll only use seventh gen.

We did sposies this summer while camping for a week too. Laundry mats were around, but I really didn't want to spend most of a day doing laundry when our schedule was so packed with other stuff to do. I had coupons I could double up for pampers so that is what I bought. I have to say that by the end of the week I was so ready to get home to our nice cloth. They are so smelly when they pee! One pack lasted us a week though. I thought about just getting the disposable liners for our flip or grobaby, but in the end I didn't order in time.

nature baby care diapers are in babies r us

Pampers have been great every time we used them. 7th Gen gave us blowouts when he was young. The whole foods brand (365) were pretty effective, and similar to 7th gen with materials.
we use 7th generation. I would NEVER buy huggies/pampers/luvs on purpose. They are often scented and they STINK. We have always used sposies at night and on long car trips, we've done 7th gen, tushies (HATED them), and naturebabycare. We like 7th gen the best.

For disposables I like Pampers the best, but the target or walmart store brand ones do the same job for much less, so I usually get those.

For wipes I do NOT like the store brand, they don't seem to do as good a job as the brand name wipes.

I had bad luck with 7th Gen, they got really hard after she'd pee. I did contact the company who told me they thought it was a bad batch. But I haven't used them again.

I buy Pampers BabyDry or Huggies for times like that.
