Looking for advice...small cavity & nursing mama

So at my 6 month check up yesterday the dentist said I have a small cavity on my last molar, which also already has a large filling, amalgam. I said I wanted no more amalgam fillings and would prefer the composite. He recommended against it bc given it's location he doesn't believe it will hold for long, something about not being able to get it dry enough to bond. Then said amalgam was the way to go. I asked about other options bc I don't want anymore amalgam fillings in my mouth, I have many already. He mentioned a crown, since the tooth will have now two fillings. Well then I thought yeah, that sounds better? I guess? I have dental insurance that will cover 50% of the crown, but only if you have a fractured tooth or the tooth cannot be repaired with a normal filling. So now it seems the crown is out but also the composite. I would pay full price for the crown, but not like I have 800$ sitting around.
I am nursing a 4 month old and will continue for possibly 3 years.
I also asked how urgent this is and he said he wouldn't wait longer than 2 months. Any longer and it could possibly get bigger.
Not sure what to do. Any advice please? TIA

If it' small, can you try the nutritional approach first? Get some CLO/butter oil, add a mineral supp or do infusions/bone broth, rinse with xylitol, add green tea to your diet, take cell salts, brush with toothsoap or something glycerin-free? There is more in the nutrition sticky above.

Thanks for your reply. I am doing some of those things already. Which flavor of toothsoap would be the best to try first? Would like dd to start using that as well. Dh will not like the price....uh. I am sending my xrays to a biological dentist in my area. I've worked with him before. So I see what he thinks. He laughed when I said the other dentist preferred the amalgam on the back teeth. And asked if the filling he did on my back tooth was still there...yep.
I am wondering if this cavity was due to pregnancy and now nursing and being on a restricted diet trying to figure out why baby has mucus in her poo....no dairy, but I am taking a cal mag supp. 1000/day.
