So at my 6 month check up yesterday the dentist said I have a small cavity on my last molar, which also already has a large filling, amalgam. I said I wanted no more amalgam fillings and would prefer the composite. He recommended against it bc given it's location he doesn't believe it will hold for long, something about not being able to get it dry enough to bond. Then said amalgam was the way to go. I asked about other options bc I don't want anymore amalgam fillings in my mouth, I have many already. He mentioned a crown, since the tooth will have now two fillings. Well then I thought yeah, that sounds better? I guess? I have dental insurance that will cover 50% of the crown, but only if you have a fractured tooth or the tooth cannot be repaired with a normal filling. So now it seems the crown is out but also the composite. I would pay full price for the crown, but not like I have 800$ sitting around.
I am nursing a 4 month old and will continue for possibly 3 years.
I also asked how urgent this is and he said he wouldn't wait longer than 2 months. Any longer and it could possibly get bigger.
Not sure what to do. Any advice please? TIA
