In-Grown Toenail

My nine-year old dd has a tiny ingrown toenail that is bothering her. Has anyone had this? Has anyone treated this at home successfully in their children or themselves?

I have gotten ingrown toenails since I was young. My mom always had me soak my feet in Epsom salt (which I still do if I get a sore one). I have been able to mostly avoid them getting sore or infected by cutting straight across the nail and stopping just short of the end of the nail and then pulling straight down (using my thumb and pointer finger). I don't know if this makes sense. I basically pull the ingrown part out. Like pulling down a hang nail. Doesn't feel great, but works.
