Gentle Discipline and the 2 Year Old

Can anyone recommend some reading that is specific to young toddlers? I have a ton of books, have read a few of them, but they really are more for when you can talk and reason with your child. Everyone I know does time out and 1-2-3 you're in trouble. I don't think that's the route I want to take but I feel like I should be doing something other than letting my child get crazy and throw stuff all over the room

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

zoe what is your parenting philosophy.

for instance i discovered that i didnt really need help with discipline. i just had to understand why my dd was behaving the way she was. when i realised she was just being age appropriate it took a lot of stress away from parenting. it was much easier for me to have compassion and not retaliate. though honestly what has worked for us right from the beginning is talk. i have never really ever 'punished' dd but have yelled at her out of frustration.

so here are the series that i love. they start at one year and go upto 12 years i think. this was written during the 60s so the discipline suggestions are not what i would follow. but man oh man are they sooo spot on with what's going on for our kids. there is not another single resource like this one that i have found.

meemee, that is EXACTLY what I'm looking for!! Thanks

Everyone I know does time out. I just don't feel that it would even be effective at this age (23 months). I think knowing what is "normal" behavior developmentally will definitely help.

Ok, off to find these books!!

I have a 2 yr old ds and have loved the articles at www.naturalchild.org. They have been enlightening and helpful on a daily basis. There are a lot of topics but in the past year I've found the ones on biting and "tantrums" particularly helpful. Start in the section titled "gentle guidance."
