Unexpected need for a hospital birth plan. I need help please!

I'm 37-38 weeks pregnant. Planned on birthing with my midwives at their birthcenter this entire pregnancy. Several weeks ago the baby was found to be breech (baby goes from Frank to complete depending on how he's moving). Since that time I've done everything in my power to flip him. Everything on the spinning babies site, Webster's, and now a failed external version. So, I'm risked out of the birthcenter. My back-up ob is the only ob in my county willing to do a vaginal breech birth. I have that option or a caesarian. I'm not settled on my choice yet but whatever I choose I know I'll be in the hospital and I'll be having many more interventions than I expected. So I need a birth plan!

Mama's who have had a caesarian, what should I ask for? I've heard of requesting certain suturing techniques, do you know about this? I'm concerned about the baby being out and then going to the warmer and being poked and prodded and then just being left there for no reason. How do I request the baby not being just left when he could be being held by DH? Tell me everything I need to know.

Mama's who have had a hospital breech, what helped you? I know it's requested that I get an epidural as OB believes it helps the latent time between reaching full dilation and pushing. OB wants to have 1 hour of full dilation before pushing. I know that at the time of pushing I'll be taken to the operating room for delivery and that there'll be a NICU team, an anesthesiologist, and more hospital staff 'just in case'. I know that if it goes well the baby is simply placed on my chest like any other delivery. If things go bad I don't know what happens.

In either situation my primary MW will act as my labor assistant and I'm requesting that she be in the delivery room.

Dh is wonderful and supportive but he's also the dad of a baby lost last year at this same hospital and has trauma due to how the Dr's mismanaged my care. He's just wanting a live wife and baby.

Any suggestions?

We are in a very similar place, and well acquainted with some of what your hubby is feeling.
Sorry you are having to adjust your plans and dreams, and move this birth into a place you are understandibly uncomfortable in. (I was in hospital at 31 weeks for PTL and had a really difficult time being pushed past 'that' room, praying it is not going to be my postpartum room)

I am researching c section (by all indicators I am carrying a VERY large baby)

These threads is were helpful for me in writing an "In the event of needing abdominal birth" plan. how is my c-section birth plan? , My C-section birth plan
This one too C-section required: Benefits to waiting until labor?

As for birthing breech, I don't know. My last one was breech till 37ish weeks but finally turned on his own. My best friend had her guy turn on his own at 39+ weeks, the day before her scheduled c-section. It is fantastic that you have a provider who is experienced with breech.

FWIW-- My little one who prefered breech LOVED to be in the sling or wrap up next to my heart. My other babes liked babywearing, but he seriously loved it. My bff found the same with her persistant breech little one.

Best wishes for your birth.

I had to transfer care from a hb to an OB due to breech at a very late date, so I know how frustrating and scary it can be. I went in with two birth plans, c-section and vaginal, but it all came out fine (version worked and she was born vaginally). Best wishes! Your doctor sounds great
