selling kids clothes - ebay, yard sale

what would be the easiest/quickest way to sell kids clothes? i have very little "good" names, mostly walmart/target brands, probably a lot of play clothes (small stains). i've never held a yard sale and i haven't sold very many clothes on ebay so i'm looking for suggestions. dd is now 5 and wearing size 6. i want to sell everything from receiving blankets up to size 5 clothes so there's a lot. thanks!

I would consider selling it all as a package (though maybe broken up by size, birth-24mos, 2-4, 4-6 or something) and selling in on craigslist...

Craigslist or Diaperswappers.com. I've had much better luck selling on DS.com than craiglist or even Ebay. I'm currently selling boys stuff from NB to 5T and over half if it's gone and it's been two weeks. It'll take some time, may not go right away, but if you price it right, etc., you should be fine.

I would try listing them as a huge lot (by sizes) on CL - but for fairly cheap. eBay or otherwise won't likely work unless you have sought after brands like gymboree, gap, Boden, Janie & Jack,... Honestly, it might be easier to just give them away or donate them to goodwill if you are only going to make like $20 or so.

I'd make lots of sizes and types/seasons of clothes and sell them. For instance, I'm buying for fall/winter right now. I don't want to buy summer stuff. I'm school clothes shopping for my older kids and just getting bigger wintery stuff for my youngest. So I'd do something like 12/18M short sleeve/summer stuff as a lot. Then 12/18M fall winter cold weather stuff as a lot.

Honestly though, I'd donate stuff in "play" condition. Maybe to a shelter or something. I won't buy stained stuff unless it's like a quarter at a yard sale. But I'm fairly decent at getting stains out.

Do any of the local parenting groups run a community yard sale?

I belong to a local parenting group solely for the chance to sell items at their twice a year sale. I sell between $2-5K worth of items at each sale and it costs me $40 to belong, plus 10% of what I sell. I'm at the point where I shop at the local thrift store looking for good deals and then turn around and sell them again. For example, I can buy a good used winter coat for $2.59 and then turn around and sell it for $25 at the sale.

It seems that people come with a list and are willing to pay higher than yardsale prices to get so much at one place. I'd try to find something like that. Lots of $.50 t-shirts add up quickly!

I think it wouldn't be worth it to do ebay with all the associated fees and stuff. You could try CL.

Totally OT, but I scanned your title too fast and thought it said, "Selling kids- ebay, yard sale"

Sorry.

My general rule is everything goes to the kiddie resale shoppe (other mothers, or the like). When I say 'everything' that means, in good condition, no stains, rips, tears, all pcs-if its a set, etc. I have a continual rubbermaid bucket that I put things of DS in that no longer fit. Every month or so I make a trip and eventually the store will buy everything. It may take several months - up to 2 years- but they will take it, again as long as the items are not torn, stained etc. I also take toys, games, and things over there. THey do not pay well, about 25c-$1 an item but it means I dont have to have a yard sale and since I drive by the store weekly its not out of my way.

Last week they took about 20 pcs of boys clothing size 8-12 and I got $10 cash, of course if you take 'trade dollars' it would've been $20. but I only take cash, we do not need more 'stuff'.

I just keep trying. I have a bar of fels naptha I scrub stuff with. I'll also make a paste of biz and let it set for a while. The biz is pretty good about greasy stuff. Sometimes I do a combo of scrubbing with the fels naptha and the biz or a paste of liquid laundry detergent and the biz..

I don't dry stuff until I can get the stain out unless it's a lost cause and then I toss it or it becomes jammies or super dirty play stuff.

I try to treat stuff right away i I can. I will use a bleach pen on white stuff.

What's biz? And what if they've already been through the dryer? Hopeless???

I sell at a kids consignment sale twice a year. I pick up stuff all year long from garage sales, thrift shops and super cheap clearance that is within a certain size range. I store it in our storage room in rubbermaid containers. Before each sale I make the girls try on everything. If it doesn't fit one of them it goes into the sale. I usually buy at the sale as well so I generally break even.

As for stains I mostly use Shout, but have used bleach pens on white parts of clothing and a toothbrush and dish soap on some stains. I succeed at removing like 95% of stains. I don't put them through the dryer until either the stain is out or I've tried at least 3 times to get it out.

biz is http://bizstainfighter.com/

I've gotten stuff out after the dryer. Just depends. I sometimes use oxyclean pretreater too. I have 2 girls close in age so I want stuff to last through them.

thanks for the recommendation! do you use the liquid or powder? is it cheaper to go with the powder? we have a HE washing machine and powder is sometimes a little tricky but i'm willing to try anything if it will mean that i can salvage some of our clothes!

I use the powder. If the stain is bad I make a paste with liquid detergent and the powder and let it sit. I have a front loader and I also use the powder in addition to my liquid detergent in most loads.
