How to night-wean a persistent 11-month-old?

My 11-month-old relies entirely on nursing to go to sleep and fall back asleep at every waking. It's getting very tiresome for me, and actually painful because I'm pregnant (or his teeth, I don't know, but I think it's the pregnant effect of nipple soreness). How do I night wean him?

I had another post at the nighttime parenting section for sleep-related help at http://www.mothering.com/discussions....php?t=1240826. But I thought maybe the breastfeeding & weaning section may have a different perspective or other ideas as it is in large a breastfeeding issue. Please help. I'd appreciate your support.

I agree with the poster in your other thread that said that you need to pick a method and stick to it. It may get worse before it gets better but it'll be fine. For my two kids, the kindest thing would be holding them but not nursing them. For other kids having dad take over would be kinder. Kids are very resilient. Be confident in your decision to lead you and your child to better sleep.

Nursing while pregnant was awful for me. I truly feared I was hurting my unborn baby b/c I was so miserable. (I was not. She's the happiest baby ever. But I freaking hated it!!)
