Not sure if anyone can offer any insight...
At 15 months old we noticed (my now 2 YO (25 Months)) acting strangely in the car. He would zone out, his head would move to the side, his mouth/face twitched and his arms and legs would move. Each episode would last 10 seconds to several minutes. It would then take several minutes for him to return to "normal". These Episodes happened every time we were in the car and several times during each trip. We also noticed a few episodes while staring at a ceiling fan, and watching TV. The episodes lasted longer and were more intense if it was a bright sunny day. We of course we very concerned, we saw several doctors, who had no idea… and had a 24 EEG, which ruled out seizures. The neurologist said that she believed he was doing this because he was bored and that he would outgrow it. We were of course relieved that they were not seizures, but didn’t really buy into her notion that he was bored. We decided to monitor him for a while. We have tried sun shades on the car windows, sunglasses (which he won’t keep on) and hats, without any change It has been almost 12 months since we first noticed these symptoms. He is still doing the same thing, however it seems to bother him, as he gets increasingly agitated, and it seems like he is trying to not look out the windows. The episodes also occur while he is in his stroller during our walks. This morning he went to see an Occupational Therapist, she was able to replicate his symptoms in the therapy room. She was dancing with him and spun around 3-4 times then placed him on the floor. He stared for 45 seconds and then it took him 4-5 minute to return to normal. This led her to believe that it is a vestibular issue.???
