What would cause bladder spasms if not a UTI?

I'm talking about my 6yo. For 2+ weeks she has complained of needing to go the bathroom again and again after she voids. The first time a lot comes out, and then just drops after that. I gave her cranberry pills hoping that would help but it didn't seem to (she won't drink the juice).

She's very frustrated with the feeling of needing to go so much. She has been wiping so much from her many trips to the bathroom that she made herself raw and I bought natural gentle baby wipes. That helped with the redness and irritation and her area looks good now. I took her to the ped and had her urine tested but it was negative for UTI. Her urine looks good, no odor, there is no pain or fever. She is not having accidents either, and sleeps through the night until about 4 AM when she goes for the first time in the day.

I looked up foods that could cause this and she is not eating any of them (she is on a limited allergy diet). Any ideas on what might be causing this and how to help her? I am thinking about taking her back to the ped again tomorrow but most likely she will still not have a UTI.

Is she holding her pee long enough in for the test? If she just went or it's diluted it won't show. Also taking her to a urologist will have a more sensitive test. It sounds like a definate UTI. You can also just buy the test at your local store. A responsible dr would give her antibiotics regardless of the test results.

Cranberry juice will not help an infection in progress. It's a preventative.

Pyridium can help take the pain away.

There is a disease called Interstitial cystitis. It feels like a UTI only forever. I would not wish that on her as there is no cure.

Avoid peppers or acids or soda.. anything that is going to hurt her bladder lining.

Thanks-- I was pushing fluids on her when she had the test, but she had held it at least 1 hour so she would have enough for the test. Her ped won't give antibiotics to her without proof of her needing them because she's had SO many antibiotics in her lifetime due to a lot of illness. The lastest has been chronic strep from age 3 until now. I'm sure if I took her back in she would get a prescrption, since this has gone on so long. I was reading about the intersticial cystitis and I too hope she doesn't have that-- sometimes it's better not to read about the worst-case things. ;-)

I have IC and from what I hear they are seeing it more and more in children. Did they say if she had any blood in her urine? That can be a sign of IC as well. They can test her for IC so if she keeps getting negative cultures you can ask to have her tested for IC.
