Snack Rut!

My almost 2 year old is tired of our normal grab-and-go snacks. What to you take with you to nourish your little one?

Some of these might not work on-the-go, but DS likes fruit, blueberry or sweet potato muffins/bread, string cheese, thin-sliced ham + cream cheese on a cracker or rolled up in a tortilla...and that's all I can think of at the moment!

I keep seeing recipes for homemade fruit leather around the blogs I read, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

We're in a major rut here. But some of our ideas are: in her snack cup she gets various cereals - cheeries, puffed kamut, etc. or Annie's cheddar bunnies. I only put dry stuff in her take along cup bc she dumps half of it all over the place. Have you tried the squeezable pouches from Ellas Organics or Plum Organics? They are pureed fruits and veggies. Easy to take along and fun for toddlers to eat and a great way to get fruit and veggies in them! DD also likes Larabars. I like to bring along cubes of cheese or cubes of baked tofu. Sometimes she'll eat berries...but mostly she won't eat fruit. She loves raisins but I don't like to give them bc they come back out whole. Olive pieces are another idea.

I'm perpetually stuck in this rut I think, I always need stuff that won't go bad because DS may or may not want it on any given day.

Whole wheat pretzel sticks were a hit, but moreso with his older friends who consumed all of them at once

I want to try dried fruit but can't find any that I feel is acceptable...

Ohhh applesauce cups, Cindy your squeeze-pouch idea reminded me of that, I think DS would like the cups & they're cheap...

I really wish I could bring whole nuts for him to snack on but I'm guessing that's still a choking hazard right?

I need to figure out how to make my own Lara bars... they're expensive around here.

We also do dry cereal (O's or some other kind, Puffins are a nice treat), crackers... but I'm often the 'bad' parent who doesn't bring food for her kid (he still nurses often)...

Oh I forgot! Freeze dried bananas and mangos from Trader Joe's. DD and her little friends all go crazy for those things and they are dry and easy to tote around and don't make a lot of mess...just stay away from the freeze dried blueberries for on the go - major mess!

Yep, nuts are a choking hazard still. Bummer bc DD likes when I give her tiny tiny pieces...but I don't even feel good doing that.
