My family's shoes are funking up my house!

It took me quite a while to figure out that the reason it smells funky when I walk in the door is my husband and daughter's shoes.Our front door opens right into the living room and there is this perfect little spot for a shoe shelf right by the door.But their stinky shoes are funking up my house.

I can't imagine where else to put the shoes.It's hard enough to get them to put them on the shelf and it's 2 feet away from where they take their shoes off.There is NO way my husband will bring his shoes all the way downstairs to his closet.

So,is there some way to de-funk their shoes on a regular basis?

What about putting cedar sachets inside the shoes? The cedar shavings absorb moisture and make the shoes smell nice.

I would have a little shaker of baking soda nearby and just try and get them to sprinkle some in whenever they take their shoes off.

I’ve never used one and am not sure about safety, but my sister says her UV light Wand (used to kill germs) removes odors from shoes. She passes the light over the stinky shoe and the odor is gone.
