Rolling over during nighttime

My 4MO DS just started learning how to roll over from back to tummy last week. Last night, I went to check on him in his crib and he had rolled over, his head was face down, hands right under his face and he was snoozing away. I didn't feel comfortable with this, so DH gently rolled him back over to his back and he didn't wake up. But he did this once again after DH had fed him this morning. I heard him wake up, he pushed him self up, looked around, but didn't roll back over.

Is this okay?? I don't remember putting my ODS to sleep on his tummy until he was rolling over completely (around 6 months) and I haven't seen my YDS do this just yet.

That sounds exactly like what our DD (10.5 months) did at that age. When she learned to roll over, she would like to sleep face down with her hands under her face. It freaked me out at first too. But then I realized that at least her hands are under her face, holding it up a little. I still would try to turn her head to the side when I saw it though. If your DS is able to hold his head up and has enough strength in his arms to hold up his body a little during tummy time, he's fine. She eventually grew out of the face down thing and now she still always sleeps on her tummy, but her head is to the side.

Always put him to sleep on his back at that age, but there isn't much you can do if he rolls over himself in the middle of the night. Now that our DD is old enough, we've been putting her to sleep on her stomach because she's even practically walking, plus she would just roll over anyway.
