3D movies?

Hey there! I want to take my kids (3 1/2 and 7) to see Toy Story in 3D. Are 3D movies quite intense? Any descriptions would be great. I saw a movie in 3D at Imax several years ago, but they are probably different now. Also, if any of us wished to remove the special glasses would the movie appear too fuzzy/blurry to be enjoyable?

Thanks!

is this going to be your 3 1/2 year olds first movie experience?

has he been to a theater before?

has he sat through a movie at home before?

is he sensitive to certain themes or ideas or emotions? do you have to 'censor' some movies because he finds them scary or too upsetting?

yes if you take off the glasses some parts are out of focus.

is this an imax theater? does he have sound sensitivities? my dd wasnt able to go to an imax showing till she was 6 because she found the sound to be painfully loud.

i would err against taking your 3 1/2 year old.

at 3 1/2 my dd could handle the spiderman movie at home, but not the movie Bugs life because of a few scenes full of suspense. however at the theater she could handle curious george at that age, but not chicken little.

movie theater, even more so the Imax, really intensify the whole movie experience. so you really are into watching it with all your senses. which is why I love it. but why it was scary or upsetting for my dd.

sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. Peter has enjoyed regular movies at the theater before. We wouldn't be attending imax (that is my only experience with 3D). He likes movies, we have just never tried 3D.

thanks for the great input! he has to go to acupuncturist this afternoon, and I wanted us to do something special afterward.

I don't care for 3-D movies myself. We saw Avatar in 3-D and DH and I both had terrible headaches for about 6 hours afterwards (and we're not particularly prone to headaches). They're also more expensive, so we usually opt for the non-3D version since most theaters offer both.

I removed my glasses to see what the screen looked like during Avatar, and everything was double-lines and fuzzy, so it would be terrible quality if watched without the glasses.

On the other hand, I took my DS to see (the non-3D version of) Toy Story 3 a few days ago and it was great! It was pretty dark and pretty sad in parts, just to warn you, but we both really liked it (my DS is 5).

I took my younger one to see Toy Story in 2D and the rest of the gang say it in 3D with their father. Personally, I would stick with 2D for the 3 year old unless he is asking to see it in 3D. There is a scene at the end which I feel would of been too much for him if he saw it in 3D (he was actually a little scared even in 2D).

We love 3D movies and Toy Story in 3d was sooo not worth it. Yes things "popped" on the screen a little more than usual but nothing came out at you like in other 3D movies. So not worth it for Toy Story IMO

We just went to see Toy Story in 3D this weekend - I don't think it was really, really 3D, if that makes sense. Like 34me said, nothing that popped out at you where the kids try to grab it. Just a sharper picture if you are wearing the glasses vs. not wearing. We liked the movie, and I actually don't care for 3D movies that make me dizzy and give me a headache so I was happy that Toy Story wasn't like other 3D movies. My kids are 3, 5, 7, and 9 (it was the 3 yo's first time going to a movie) and they all did great and enjoyed it.

Here are the ratings on it:

The 'scary' part was when they were falling into the fire pit thing, but in general the 3D wasnt very intense compared to other 3D movies.

Levi is usually really scared of 3D shows (he's been to the ones at disney and always gets scared), this is the first 3D one I took him to in an actual theater, and he was totally fine and enjoyed it. He will be 3 in a few days.
