inositol and 5-htp and melatonin safe for BFing?

OK im on zoloft right now b/c i need emergency help over here for depression/ PPD.

i brought up to my Dr that i read inositol and 5htp could be just as effective but she said they have not been studied enough for pregnant/nursing moms to know if they are safe...

so of course the bottles say do not take if pregnant or nursing but so does my script bottle..

also melatonin can help me sleep but how do i know if its safe?

everyone keeps telling me natural stuff is not safe b/c it is not studied enough, so does anyone know of any studies on any of those with breastfeeding? anyone taken it while breastfeeding? what do you all think?

5-htp is not safe for pregnant or nursing mothers. You are actually safer using zoloft.
Once youre not pregnant or nursing, 5-htp is a great option.
I am not sure about the others. This information can be found in the book "The mood cure" by Julia Ross
Also, there are many threads about it, search "the mood cure"

Yeah that. I'm off Zoloft right now and I'm going to give 5htp a try. But if I were nursing the only thing I would trust for my depression would be Zoloft. Just because other therapies are natural doesn't mean they're better for your baby.

I took them while breastfeeding under the advisement of an MD. I don't regret it at all. I was presented with the research, and after looking it over felt safer than I did with pharmaceuticals. My MD did as well. I had actually asked him to prescribe for me (which he was more than willing to do) but he was the one to steer me in the direction of supplementation.
