I agree with PP. We co-sleep and DD will generally fall asleep either nursing, in the sling, or on DH's shoulder. After I figured out that I don't need to change her in the middle of the night (unless it's poop which it almost never is), she STTN since she was 3 weeks old. By STTN I mean that she wakes 2-4 times to nurse, and then goes RIGHT back to sleep while nursing. I hear her stirring in her sleep, I stick a boob in her mouth, and we both doze while she nurses. She unlatches when she is done, and we both fall asleep easily. It is so perfect and natural that I simply do not believe that there is a better way.

This sounds just like what we are doing. I'm loving it!

We are going to need a new ped soon for insurance reasons, so I am definitely going to look for one who is more pro-cosleeping!

Same here...I swear it's the only reason I'm a sane, fully-functioning (even though I'm preggo again- and cosleeping/nursing) WOHM. I haven't had to "fully" wake up at night in forever.

I would follow your instincts on that. I know ds did nurse to sleep for a long time, but then around 3 years old or so was pretty easily night weaned. I wonder why peds worry so much about this, but not about formula feeding, bottle propping, etc?

I have been nursing my ds to sleep since I figured out how to do it! When I take him to his pediatrician they are always trying to give me advice (even if I dont ask for it or about it) so I just smile and nod and have the confidence to do what I know to be best. At ds's 2 mo checkup, (hes 4 mo now) his ped was telling me "tips" that basically coincide with CIO methods.....I just smile and decide to fight the battles with him worth fighting, like not vaccinating. A good friend told me that peds will feel like a big part of your life, but they're not. They are just there to make sure your baby is growing and to vaccinate. Im considering not even going back until his 1 yr check up because I know hes growing.......in other words, take everyones advice in strides, even the "professionals"........
