Is Toy Story 3 going to be to scary for my 2.5 year old?

Well it is a muggy rainy day here and I have a desire to go to the movies but wondering if anyone has taken their toddler to see Toy Story 3?

We did! My DH was so excited to see it so we did a family movie trip -- DD enjoyed it but mostly for the visuals, the humor and story line were way too much for her.

There is some threatening of the toys by another toy. Betrayal by this same toy. And a spot where the toys are convinced they will die and all join hands because at least they will die together. That last part made even my teens sob.

I took my 5yo and he really liked it, but I chose not to take my 2.5yo because I had heard about the dark/sad parts. It was kind of dark and kind of sad, but after seeing it I think those parts would have gone right over her head. I actually think I'd be more likely to take a 2.5yo than, say, a 3.5yo who would get it a little more.

I concur with the pp. My 16 yo whose first theater experience was the first Toy Story wound up with tears streaming down her face. The younger kids in the theater didn't really get most of it. And don't waste your money on the 3D.

We did, my 2yo is 26mos and we went with our 9yo also. The 'climax' of the movie is definitely scary to a toddler, several menacing toys etc. so DH took her out for a snack during that part, but otherwise it was fine

For what it's worth, my DH took my 28 mo DS last week. He didn't last through the previews. He thought it was all too loud and "scary." We didn't expect that at all.

I allowed my MIL to take my DD when it first came out- I wasn't feeling very well. All my 2yo got out of the movie was that "Baby broke his heart". Apparently Barbie broke Ken's heart at some point in the movie.

My 2-year-old actually did better in the movie than my 6 year old. I don't know how everyone else got such a different impression, but I thought that the climax of the movie was way too scary. One thing building upon another -- they're safe! No, another terribly dangerous thing is going to happen! My DS1 shrieked, "They're not going to make it!!!" and he shook and whimpered until the conflict resolved.

DS2 kind of lost interest at that point, thankfully. My husband took him for a walk up the aisle.

As for "Baby broke his heart", there's a big baby doll with a bum blinky eye who lives at the daycare. He has a heart necklace that says something like "I belong to Daisy" -- his original owner -- Lotso Huggin bear rips it off his neck when it seems that Daisy doesn't want them anymore and they go to live at the Daycare. Maybe another explanation of what your DD meant? It was a pretty sad scene, the toys are standing out in the rain and the doll says "mama".
