New here with a question

Hi everybody, I'm new here, and not pregnant yet, but probably will be in the next few months. I have two little girls, 3 years and 13 months old, respectively. We're also a Marine family, and will be moving to Cherry Point, NC in a couple months.

We have decided that our third child will be born at home, and I would like to start researching names and locations of homebirth midwives before I become pregnant, because I have a feeling one will not be easy to find. I've already posted this question on the Cafemom Natural Birth forum, and the closest midwife anyone knew of was in Wilmington, about two hours away. Very discouraging. A Google search turned up nothing.

I checked out a website called NChomebirth, and filled out a request for information. No one has contacted me, and it's been a couple weeks. I know that this isn't urgent, since I'm not even pregnant yet, but I know how quickly those 9 months go by once I am.

Does anyone know about the area, and have any suggestions? Or at least another source I could go to in my search? Thank you very much.

midwife near Cherry Pt. NC

Wow, Rachel,
My husband & I almost moved to your area of NC last spring (instead of back home to western NC), as he had a possible job in your area, but in this economy, it fell thru. I do travel, but you are a bit far from me. Did you talk to the homebirth CNM just north of Wilmington? I can't recall her name right off. Maybe I'll see her at some of the state nurse-midwifery meetings.

Wow, that's too bad you didn't move there! Wilmington is about 2 1/2 hours from Cherry Point, so that's a little far, considering my last labor only lasted about 3 hours total.

Maybe you could try to contact LLL in that area. I looked at their locations and there is one in Jacksonville and in New Bern; neither are that far from Cherry Point. They might have some recommendations for a homebirth midwife.

By the way, I was born in Cherry Point, NC! I only lived there from 0 - 6 months, though, so I can't really share anything else about the area -- lol!

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I'm actually going to be living in New Bern.
