How freaked out would you be? Weird sharp stabby pains

I'm 18 1/2 weeks pregnant with twins.

I was sound asleep napping and was woken up by sharp, stabby, owie pains right in the middle of either the bottom of my uterus or maybe my cervix-- I can't tell. I also have a killer headache that won't go away, even after I took Tylenol, and I'm generally feeling poopy today with nausea, shortness of breath, heart racing, etc.

I called my doctor's office and the nurse tried to tell me it was round ligament pains and I should take a bath. But I really don't think so. She tried to blame it on me having "so many" pregnancies, but one advantage of so many pregnancies is knowing what round ligament pain feels like, and this isn't it.

I'm wondering how pushy I should be. I can call back- she actually said to if the bath didn't work-- but I don't want to make a big deal out of nothing. DH has a wedding rehearsal tonight and it would be a PITA if I had to go in.

Anyway, thoughts?

Another advantage of having 'so many' pregnancies is you know when something is OK and when it's not. What is your gut telling you, mama? Be as big a PITA as you need to be.

I've had similar pains in both pregnancies, based on your description, that I've attributed to RLP. HOWEVER, if this is a deviation from what you normally experience, and it was strong enough to wake you up, I would nag until they addressed the issue to your satisfaction.

I think I am just feeling crappy in general and I panicked. The pains have gone away, but the headache, nausea, fatigue, etc are all still there. And I've been crying like crazy all day. I feel like all I do anymore is complain, but I honestly don't know how I am going to do this for another 20 weeks or so.

I'm only preggers with one, and only have three weeks or so to go, but I feel your pain. None of the canned encouragement responses I can think of right now seem appropriate, and I'm too tired to come up with something original, so for now just know I understand.

Awww Annette. Hugs. I know that feeling of 20 more weeks of this?! Between all the pregnancy symptoms and fears of loss its so hard.

It sounds completely normal to me, especially in a twin pregnancy. I wouldn't worry. Change positions, and try to avoid positions or movements that aggravate it or make it happen again.

I have had those pains before. They are weird, and not RL pains. But I'd say unless you feel something labor-y, not to worry.

How are you feeling today Annettemarie? Hope last night went better for you.

that pain sounds normal to me, but not as RL, more of a cervix thing.

I had a similar pain when I was pregnant with my 3rd a couple years ago. My midwife insisted that I drink more water...that the pain could be a sign of dehydration (add to that the headaches, nausea, etc). Have you tried drinking more water? I am pregnant with twins, now, and I am drinking around 120 oz of water a day. From what my midwife says, you will dehydrate much much faster with twins than with a single baby.

The pains by themselves wouldn't worry me too much, but if the headache doesn't go away I'd ask to be seen and at least have my blood pressure checked.

I had a nice long chat with one of my favorite midwives last night and she really talked me down. She also did not lamely try to pass it off as round ligament pain, which just seemed sketchy to me. She did mention drinking more water as well, and said the headaches probably were sinus related (I've been waking up with bloody noses and am all stuffy, so I'm not surprised there.) I'm feeling less freaked out today and more listened to. Thanks!
