Big thrifter here! I love them - 90% of what my DD wears is thrifted - no sense in paying full price for something she's going to wear for 2 months or less.

I wanted to try making my own bread so I picked up a bread machine for $7 to see if I liked it. My plan was to use that machine a few times and then get a "good" one. I used that thrifted one for 2 years! It only stopped working when I was pregnant and couldn't make it work and threw it... hormones much?

I like Saver's and Thrift Town - my two faves! Wednesday is seniors day at Saver's, 30% off - so I take my mother and we get MAJOR deals!

I got a mega block infant train set for $2, all pieces included, even 3 little mega blocks buildings and a see and say for 25 cents at the hospital's pennywise shop last thursday!

This is a great thread mamas!

I have moved it to Frugality and Finance where it can have a permanent home.

The other day I found 4 blue and white pots for 50 cents each at our Salvation Army. I planted some flower seeds that I got for 20 cents at Walmart. So for $2.20, I will have a really cute centerpiece for my kitchen table.

What I really think is cool about some thrift stores is the possibility of finding a little used article that is very high quality, then it's really worth the money.

Also, I think alot about the ethics of where we put our dollars. At least when I buy second hand, I'm not directly supporting companies that use sweat shops. It makes sense environmentally too as you're reusing something someone else didn't want anymore.

Totally.

We actually go to a few thrifts outside our neighborhood in the more 'well-to-do' ones and find some great items. Columbia, North Face, Patagonia clothing all for under $10. Talk about awesomeness. We definitely scout out the good shops.

Not supporting sweat shops is something we also consider. Yeah you can go to Wal-Mart , Target, Old Navy, etc... for some cheap clothes but you have to think about why you are paying so little for them. Just the same as the food industry, you vote with your dollars on clothing too. Green America has a some great info on conscious consumerism, if you'd like to check it out. Buying union, local or secondhand is what we take into account when shopping.

Not to mention we get a lot of clothing and sporting goods through our own swapping parties so our friends don't even have to trek to goodwill and know for sure that their items will be put to use in a good home.

I try not to buy anything new. We find such awesome stuff at thrift stores and yard sales. We could never afford the stuff that we buy if we got it new. I love the thrill of it. You never know what you are going to find.

I love thrift stores, and I also enjoy consignment stores and yard sales. It's a bit harder for me to get to thrift stores sometimes with the odd hours and my husband working tons of overtime, but this next week I'm scheduled for some yard saling and going to my favorite children's consignment store!

Me Me Me! I am all about thrift stores, resale shops, yard sales, garage sales, and couponing and startegic shopping too. I HATE paying retail for anything.

Some of my favorite deals-
DD2's dresser. It was only $25 and it's actually so big, I am thinking I don't need another dresser for #3 who will arrive in September. I would like to get a second one eventually, but baby and toddler clothes are so tiny and this dresser is so big, they can share for a while.

My scrapbook desk. I HUGE work surface, heavy/solid build, lots of drawers, exactly what I was looking for. Originally priced, at Goodwill, for $45, then marked down to $20, found it on one of the 50% off days, paid just $10 for it. One of my favorite deals ever. I will say, it's UGLY, but it's totally functional, providing just what I need.

This past week, I actually haven't bought anything, groceries or anything, except a couple of snacks at work when I forgot mine. All our meals have come right from our stockpiled pantry/freezer. I spent like $125 on groceries/household supplies last week, $0 this week. Woo Whoo!
