Periodontal disease

Thread Starter
I am only in my 20's but already suffer from periodontal disease. (It's not from my own lack of oral hygeine; I got it from my parents; I already had it by my late teens but ignored it until it got really bad with my pregnancies, so that's about 4 years now that I've been regularly treated for it.) DH and I go to the dentist every couple of months for deep cleanings, but I'm not in love with the dentist because they keep trying to push treatments (cosmetic, mostly) on us and it's a really fancy place... "fancy" if you get my drift. Real expensive and we do not have the money for it.

Anyway.

What are some ways to help periodontal disease? When I try to look for "cures" or treatments it's either a) surgery or b) some "magic" cure that I don't believe in.

Oil pulling helps some and we've tried that but we always run out of the oil so we're not very consistent on that.

Anyone have any tips or experience? Thanks.

Subbing and bumping for a family member.

We will be investing in a waterpik to to be more gentle on our gums.

I've been using water heavily salted with sea salt, and pretending to oil pull with that. It's definitely not hurting anything, and there has been absolutely no inflammation since I started doing this. The perio hygienist at my dental office said it could possibly help, since it would clear out bacteria. Also, I make sure to never miss a day flossing.

Check out the Smile Method. It may help. http://www.albrite.com/index.htm
Your library may have the book for you to check out and read first before using the method. (My library got it for me through inter-library loan.)

Also, take lots of vit c.

I can't say Ihave reversed what has happened to my gums, but I had to stay on top of them or they would fall apart if I missed a day of anything. It wasn't after I cut out dairy 100% (even butter), that I no longer have that inflamation.
Taking camu camu powder really helped, brushing lightly, and never missing a night with flossing. I now can miss a few night or even a week and no bleeding afer cutting out dairy.
