We need some new things to watch. Just finished Ken Burns' documentary on the Civil War, streaming through the Wii. Anyone got anything fun to share? Something that is just "can't miss?"

but let's be honest - this is really for me, too.

The 10 year old watched portions of the Civil War with us, but a lot of it was too gruesome. Hubby and I are documentary geeks.

I honestly have nothing in my queue right now, but I just had a giggle at your username because that was my nephew's word for nursing before he weaned.

i love "no impact man". there's definitely some language, but it would be perfect for you and your husband. it's a wonderful documentary. i also like the beautiful truth, the future of food, everest imax, food inc, and so forth. there are a ton of awesome documentaries at netflix.

for kids, i love libery kids, the blue planet, everest, man vs. wild, around the world in 80 days, and it's not instant, but "this is america charlie brown" is perfect for younger kids.

i'll post more later as i think of it. but this is what comes to mind for now.

ETA - okay. tall tales and legends is in our queue. we've not watched them yet, but there are several (by shelley duvall), and look like fun for the kids.

i also have these in our queue for myself (but i've not seen them yet):

the gerson miracle
the diary of anne frank (my kids can watch this too)
the new medicine
how to cook your life
eating well for optimum health
encounters at the end of the world
wild china
killer at large
maxed out
sick around america

well...off to watch one now!

My 4.5yo son is all about Man vs. Wild. Highlights today so far: eating raw fish & snakes, and drinking the liquid out of elephant dung. DS is fascinated!

We have a Magic School Bus DVD at home at all times. I've ordered The Universe Seasons 1 & 2. DS watched How the Earth was Made with us last night. Today he told me that water came from the meteorites.

I've ordered a bunch of Spanish DVD's. There have to be a few good ones in the bunch.

I also recommend No Impact Man & Food Inc. We have lots of documentaries in our instant queue we haven't watched, but the deep sea ones are popular with DS, and I love the ones by David Attenborough.

We just saw Microcosmos. Gorgeous - lots of bug closeups.
And we've seen tons of David Attenborough documentaries; they're amazing! Some are: The Life of Birds, The Life of Mammals, Planet Earth and more.
We also have the Evolution series in our queue, but we haven't seen it yet.

I don't know if netflix has these, but we either rented them from our local video store, the library, or bought them used online:

That's How We Build A House http://www.amazon.com/Thats-How-We-B...8824347&sr=1-1

How'd They Build That ?...Fire Truck http://www.amazon.com/Howd-They-Buil...4&sr=1-2-fkmr1

How a car is built http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

Meerkat Manor all 4 season plus the movie. However, for little kids who can't follow the narration, this is nothing more than scene after scene of little brown rodents running around. If you can follow the narration, it's really interesting. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

National Geographics Really Wild http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

The Big Renovation http://www.amazon.com/BIG-Renovation...8824969&sr=1-1

Building Big http://www.amazon.com/Building-Big-B...8825347&sr=1-1
