Hello,
We are living in the Mississippi river valley in Rock Island, IL. We found out we have poison ivy in our yard because 3 of our 5 children have come down with extremely nasty p.i. rashes. So I went out and looked around, it is a highly green backyard and I spotted over 50 plants in the borders, climbing fences, on the ground and spouting out of rock beds. We are apparently really allergic to it, my little girl rubbed her eyes after touching the plant and my little boy went potty after touching one, you can imagine what that looks like!!!
The tough part, we rent this house and the landlord is extremely rude. Our basement flooded, we were told it is a dry basement and one bedroom is down there, and he blamed us. We have had mushrooms in the bathroom, mold in the basement and all sorts of problems he was supposed to fix but never did. So I do not want to even ask him about the landscaping.
But I have issues using chemicals, and apparently there is no other way to get rid of it? Also I do not want to kill everything else there either! I need some help here badly, I cannot even begin, by the way I am 6 months pregnant so I do not want to be out there covered in it either. Any ideas? We are at a loss. Our lease is up the end of August and we are planning on moving, just need to do something between now and then, because we are basically stuck living upstairs, the basement is horrible and now we can't even go outside!!!!! We are new to this area so maybe I am overly emotional and not used to it yet, but most things I have read say subsequent exposure is worse each time!! ick
