How often do 4-month-olds usually pee?

I've just started part-time EC with my little guy. I'm catching 2 or 3 pees a day and that's just fine for now - he is diapered the rest of the time (and I have no plans for ditching diapers at this point).

I tend to be pretty body-language dense, so at this point I'm relying on timing. What I've come to realize, when I check, is that DS quite often will pee every 15 minutes - I can potty him successfully, and then 15 minutes later, his diaper will be wet.

Is this common? I'm reading Diaper Free but I haven't got to that bit yet! I'm not at this point ready to be taking him to the potty every 15 minutes... but I'm not sure whether this is common at his age and EC will help him stretch this out, or whether it's just "him"....

I'm in almost the same situation as you. My DD is 4 months, I'm ECing part-time, and she seems to pee constantly! I can catch her pees after waking, but other than that, I feel clueless. I had a talk with her today, letting her know that her mommy is a little dense and needs some more clear-cut signals. I just hope I catch on soon. I'm also still reading Diaper Free Baby, hopefully I'll learn more as I get through it.

So, I don't know if it's common, but that's at least 2 of us!

that was my experience as well but I also found that the more I took her the longer she would hold it. She was just used to going whenever she wanted but once she realized I would take her regularly she would wait. That proabably took until she was about 5+ months old and we started part time at birth and moved to more and more full time bcs that was where she was leading us.

I think it is common, especially in the morning.

My dd (almost 5 months old) pees that often first thing. Most of our misses are right after she wakes (anywhere from 5:30-7am) until her morning nap (usually about 1.5-2 hrs after waking). She'll wake up, pee and sometimes poo, then 10-15 minutes pee again! Then usually at least one more time again! If we are just hanging out in the bed, playing with her, she is more likely to go w/o signals than if we are carrying/wearing her--then she'll usually squirm a bit or cry (but not always!).

By mid morning she tends to even out, and the rest of the day can hold it surprisingly long if she wants.

Nicole, you have a pterodactyl too huh? LOL

Thanks to you all. It's good to hear this is "normal" (wasn't worried, but wondered about the implications for EC). We'll keep on truckin!

One more thing to add about pee quantities since I think we just went through it. When dd hits a growth spurt, her previous elimination patterns are thrown out the window! Since the cucumber incident (see my post!), we have been completely off--she's been peeing a ton and we just seemed to keep missing them! I am not sure if it was the cukes, or perhaps a growth spurt since she was nursing a lot as well. I'm hoping we've come out of it, whatever it was, since last night we had a dry night (meaning she'd squirm, be dry, pee in her potty, nurse back to sleep the two times she woke up).

I think my point is, , whatever is going on this week will be different by next week, sometimes different wetter, sometimes different dryer!

And yes, Perdita, I have hatched a pterodactyl! You too, huh? Our favorite is when lying in bed in the morning and she screeches as loudly as she can right in both our ears! Boy does she think that's funny!

Yeah, I suppose that's the same as all things with a babe - there is no "normal" LOL. I caught 3 pees today (technically the carpet caught two of them because I'm having trouble controlling the spraying...) and one of them - it was because I caught a sign. Yay!

DS isn't screeching THIS week, but I think it's just an interlude. DD didn't do that at all (she saved her screeching until age 4 - lucky us...). DH has tinnitus, and the screeches almost drive him out of the room in pain, so I sure hope it's done soon!
