I must say that my love for organic/natural skin care is probably borderline obsession, lol. I am by no means an expert, but I am always trying to learn more and find better and more effective organic and natural products to use on myself and for my family. So any other mamas out there share my passion?? Come join me!

I make a face mask with

raw cow milk (room temp or warm) just enough to make mud like
pinch of turmeric
sandalwood powder 1/2 tsp
saffron 2-3 strands or a pinch of crushed
amalaki powder 1/4 tsp
and chickpea flour (2 TBS)

its amazing

That does sound amazing!! Turmeric is supposed to be so good in skin care! Where do you order/buy your ingredients?
chickpea flour - whole foods, any natural food store, most indian stores
amalaki -banyan botanicals, most indian stores

the rest i think i get at my local market

you can use yello or red sandalwood. i use both lately because i got hooked up with a bunch of it.

leave it on for about 30 min. about 10 after it dries an then rinse off warm water. cleanses & moisterizes like no other!

I would love to get some ideas for natural soaps and shampoo/conditioners. I've been using dr. bronners soap, but DS and I both have excema and he seems to have cradle cap too. It's much more drying than the Dove sensitive skin i was using.
I love vinegar for my hair- I use it as shampoo, it leaves it soft (i have very dry skin and hair). I'm looking for a conditioner though, something cheap.

I loooove shea butter for lotion-it's so moisturizing for my dry skin!

RubThyNeighbor- going to try and find the ingredients and try out the mask!

yippiehippie- I've been using soap/shampoo bars from www.chagrinvalleysoapandcraft.com, and doing a vinegar rinse on my hair after the shampoo, and so far so good! As far as conditioner, have you tried putting a little jojoba oil in your hair after you shower? Sometimes if I feel my hair is dry, i just rub a few drops in my hands and put it on the canopy part of my hair while it's still a little damp. The Chagrin Valley also sells a conditioner bar that you might like.

Thanks, i was actually wondering about jojoba oil, i've been putting it on DS's head for cradle cap. i'm gonna look into that website, too

I try to use natural body products. I also try to go fragrance free or subtly scented with essential oils.

hello mamas.

there is a whole forum for this kind of stuff! So I have moved this thread over to the natural body care section.

We're really starting to get into this too! Made a diaper rash cream today for DS and DH loves the baking soda/arrowroot powder/coconut oil deo we made. Trying lotions the most but find after they are nice and whipped and smooth, they become hard in the jar. Work fine after I "reheat" between my hands but would like to reach more of a lotion consistency. Think I might need an emulsifier that I haven't added yet--beeswax? lecithin? Also wanna try lip balm even though I love Zosimos' website and balm...
