string for baltic amber teething necklace

Okay, so I got some bulk baltic amber beeds to make my own teething necklaces. I could not find cotton string at our Michael's. I got this stretchy cord and even double-stringing it, it still broke. What do you use?

I bought a necklace off a woman on etsy and I HATE the way she strung it. Not safe at all. Gaps between the beads; knots were not big enough etc- I let her know that her stringing was bogus and she offered to fix it, but I can just do it myself- way less hassle that way. I bought some hemp string at a craft store, but it's too thick to string through. I have some nylon coated beading wire that is 25lb test, but I don't know if it will affect the healing properties. I am looking it up, and will let you know.
