bug bites?

Do you mamas use anything to treat mosquito bites? My DS has a lot right now. They don't seem to be bothering him too much, but my mom is babysitting for a few hours today and if she sees them, she'll have to do something. She always has to do SOMETHING. (ex: if she sees the slightest rash on his bottom, she has to slather some kind of cream all over it, whereas I would just let him go diaper free for a while so it can air out, and then maybe put something on it if it doesn't get better.) I just figure I should leave her something to put on them, otherwise who knows what she'll come up with. So, is there some kind of concoction I can make out of things I have around the house?

I put Tea Tree Antiseptic Ointment on bug bites.

It seems to help them to stop itching, and the tea tree oil can help prevent infection from scratching.

We love homeopathic Stingstop but we have run out this year and I can't get it in our town. I know it says sting stop but we use it on anything itchy--mostly bug bites. It's cool and soothing. I really should look for it again.

My alternative pharmacist told me to use lavender oil.

We have a tea tree ointment we put on bites that has eucalyptus and lavendar in it as well. Works really well to help take the itch out and keep it from getting infected.

Does the tea tree ointment sting? I'd love to give my kids something soothing for their bites, but if it stings even slightly they freak out and won't use it.

The one we have doesn't sting in the slightest.

Witch Hazel helps with the itch, redness and swelling.

We must have the same ointment as Evie's Mama - the jar says "Tea Tree Therapy Antiseptic Ointment Eucalyptus Australiana & Lavender Oil"

It doesn't sting at all; feels soothing, even on scraped knees.

Yup! It's great stuff. We use it on all of DD's scrapes and such. My DH has over 100 chigger bites right now and has found it to be the only thing that brings any relief to the itching! Poor guy!

Here's a link to the stuff if anyone is wondering. I just pick mine up at Whole Foods...they have it on sale right now.

We rub plantain leaves on them. Grind them up kind of to get the juices going.
